Chili Cookoff and Clean River Alliance Fundraiser, May 16, 2016

The Roadhouse was the place to be. A great time was had by all. The CRA fundraiser was a tremendous success. Over 200 people came out to lend their support. 15 people entered the cookoff with an array of mouth watering delicious sauces. Quite the competition this year. The amazing amount of donations for the silent auction and raffle was greatly appreciated. Locals and businesses contributed this year to make this event an important one supporting the river communities. This event would not have been possible if it hadn’t been for Brad Metzger and Raena Jones from the RNR. And ofcourse, kudos to Chris Brokate and the Garbage Patch Kids. Way to go! I sure love this Community.

Friends of Rio Nido (FRN) Meeting, May 14th

So much ground was covered, it is way too much for me to mention in this column. Go to for a more comprehensive overview. Below is just a bare bones minimum on what was discussed. Discussions centered on several topics including:

Safety/Security Issues: The FRN Board met with our local Sheriff on May 17th.

Infrastructure was discussed in terms of moving the bus stop so pedestrians would not have to cross river road to get to the bus stop and as we all know quite alot of speeding goes on at that intersection and it is dangerous.

Beautification: Tunnel cleanup is ongoing.

Community Development: Propane Signup for residents is still ongoing.

The RN Sign: the second branding sign is forthcoming shortly.

The historic RN sign: lighting is in the works to get that beauty lit up at night.

Other topics of interest discussed were: RR Rec & Park District Report, The Harris Family update, Sweet Water Springs District Report, the RN Main Water Supply project update and the Watershed Cleanup Report.

A new FRN board member was added to the group. Let’s all give RN resident Alexandria Goodman a warm welcome.

Rio Nido Pet of the Month

There is a very special boy in town. His name is Zeus. Zeus, the Rottweiler was rescued from an abandoned home in Vallejo, CA. He was left to fend for himself along with his Rotty sister. A good samaritan took care of him for a short time until he had to leave town. My heart broke when I heard of this news and decided to take a drive and rescue this little guy. The minute I saw him there was an instant bond. His sister was rescued as well... back to Zeus. He is a beautiful block head Rotty. He is still a pup and loves to play with his older brother Jesse James. They run around the yard like Yin & Yang, frolick and box with one another. Zeus really loves his toys and has quite an appetite. He is still a baby boy (don’t let his size fool you) and has a ton of energy. He came to us very well mannered and fiercely protects his home/family along with Jesse James. He is gentle with his new Chihuahua sisters and is quite the loving big bear.
