Geyserville Grapevine - deTraci Regula - May 2016

Geyserville Grapevine - deTraci Regula - May 2016

A few downright hot days this past week has reminded us that summer is coming. While we all still hope for a little more rain, the skies may not be cooperating. Will the drought  return this coming fall and winter? The general consensus is that our “El Nino” is over and is now ushering in the drier “La Nina” weather. For the moment, the sides of the road are still green and one of our biggest chores here at the Isis Oasis Sanctuary is weeding our big Ankh Labyrinth which has sprouted a rich variety of grasses and plants. Feel free to stop by and pull up a handful or two if you haven’t got enough weeds of your own to tame!

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Geyserville’s annual May Day Celebration on Sunday, May 1st 2016. This fun day out continues a tradition that began in the 1920s  and features the Kiwanis barbecue rib cook-off,  booths, games, Ballet Folklorico, and good times. The Kiwanis rib cook-off is determined in part by the number of votes cast by eatersm with input from a secret panel of judges. Interested in competing? The last day to pay the $150 fee and register is April 27th. Forms can be found at the Geyserville Chamber of Commerce web site. Will our next door neighbors at the Geyserville Fire Department triumph with their ribs? We hope so! Other festivities include  the crowning of the May Queen at 1:30pm, followed by a charming May Pole dance by local Geyserville third-graders. It’s fun to watch these determined little dancers try to avoid becoming entangled in the long ribbons. There will be other food booths, historic displays from the early days of Geyserville (maybe even some dating all the way back to the brief period it was called “Clarville”), and much more. Catch all the fun at  the Hoffman Picnic Gounds at Canyon Road and Geyserville Avenue, just beyond our iconic Red Barn. For more information, you can contact  the Geyserville Chamber of Commerce at (707) 276-6067.

A new arrival in Geyserville is the Geyserville Gun Club, a new lounge operated by the owner of Diavola’s a couple of doors down. The bar specializes in classic drinks, including the absinthe-washed Sazerac, and offers a daily special and  an array of appetizers, served out of the Diavola kitchen.

As always, please feel free to write me at I love hearing from Sonoma County Gazette readers. Let me know your upcoming Geyserville events 6 to 8 weeks beforehand.
