Cazadero Communications - May 2016

Cazadero Communications - May 2016

by Natasha Pehrson

The sun is once again shining brightly on the stately redwoods outside of my airy cyber-hut!  After a bit more rain, Spring has broken out in the hills. Although it is a bit hard to believe that May is just around the  corner, I will remind you that it is, bringing with it Mother’s Day celebrations, almost end of  the school year and promises of warmer days and nights to come.

The recent Pole Mountain fundraiser pancake breakfast and raffle was well attended and I remind you that you may also donate by mailing to P.O. Box 588, Monte Rio, CA 95462. Another important local group is Forests Unlimited: and their mailing address is P.O. Box12, Cazadero, CA 95421.

The next monthly meeting of the Cazadero Community Club will be on Tuesday, May 3rd, 7 p.m. at  Firehall #1. Yearly dues are only $10 for Individuals, $15 for families, and payable to P.O. Box 3, Cazadero. Please do attend a meeting and help your neighbors plan events that benefit the entire community!

Remember Cazadero Supply’s 1st Saturday 15% Discount day for gardening, automotive and general household items. Both the Cazadero and Duncans Mills General Stores carry basic grocery supplies and many locally grown and created specialties. Raymond’s Bakery continues its great Friday Pizza Nights, featuring live music by local performers.

Mr. Trombly’s Tea and Table shops in Duncans Mills always amaze with their colorful wares and you may have a tasty bite at Cape Fear Café or Gold Coast Coffee and Bakery just across the road.                                                                                                                                            While the school year is winding down for the students at Montgomery Elementary School, May is still full of fun activities. Beginning May 2nd is Teacher Appreciation Week where the students show their teachers how much they appreciate all that they have taught them! On May 13th, the parents sponsor Field Day for the students. A group of volunteer parents come to the school and set up physical challenges for students to complete. They are grouped into teams and participate in team building. On May 17th Mr. R’s 3rd- 5th graders will go on a field trip to the Sacramento History Museum and on the way they will stop and take a tour of the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield. On May 19th, the school will have an Open House for all parents and community friends. Also, Mrs. Mercieca’s 6th-8th graders will have a Science Fair the same night. All the fun begins at 7pm. Lastly, if you have a child that is ready to enter Transitional Kindergarten and/or Kindergarten now is the time to enroll them. You can call the school office at 632-5221 if you have any questions.

Coming up on June 7th is the California Primary, with many local and national issues and candidates. I will not tell you who or what to vote for, but please DO VOTE!

Happy May Anniversaries to Joyce and Jim Berry celebrating their 42nd on May 4th, along with Harriet and Ken Parmeter with their 54th. Cathy (of Sky Garden fame) and Dennis Schezer enjoy their 33rd on the 12th.
