Forestville - The Good Life - March 2016

Forestville - The Good Life - March 2016

by Richard Naegle

G'ville and F'ville Oddfellows have merged and have put the F'ville Oddfellows Hall on the market for $500k.  The Hall has been a wonderful venue for our Town Meetings.  We’ll miss meeting there.

The Chamber of Commerce’s annual Award's Dinner for Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Business of the Year will be held on Wednesday, 4/27 at Russian River Vineyards.  Check for details.  And don’t forget to sign up for you Chamber membership!

Negotiations are in full swing to bring the Forestville Famers Market to the new Downtown Park (beginning either this year or next).  The Market has outgrown its original home at Russian River Vineyards, and Chris O’Neil, owner of Cork’s Restaurant and RRV, who has so successfully nurtured the Market for the last three years, feels that its continued growth and success requires a shift to downtown Forestville.

The Forestville Community Fund (FCF) will soon be offering grants for projects that will enhance Forestville.  Begin dreaming of what you might propose!  For more info:, click “Community Fund.”

Little League, celebrating 50 years:  baseball started at the Youth Park in 1963 with Charles Schulz being its first all-star manager.  April 2 is opening day with a pancake breakfast at 8 and opening day ceremony on 10.  May 7 is fund raising day.  Lots of fun activities for families throughout the day with an all star baseball game, a pitch-a-thon for kids, live music, silent auction, delicious barbeque, and movie night at the park.

Plans are moving ahead for a new West Sonoma County charter middle school to open in either August 2016 or 2017—all part of a strategy to boost local enrollment.  The project is a partnership of the high school district and the Forestville district; the charter school would be under the high school district, an arrangement that will benefit both districts financially as well as expand academic offerings for students.  Forestville School and Academy:  Early Literature Faire on March 30th--community event for parents of 0-5 children focusing on kindergarten readiness and early literacy. Held throughout the campus 4-6.

THE LION KING, JR. will be the Academy’s spring musical this year:  Fridays and Saturdays at 7 pm and Sundays at 2 pm in the Multi-Purpose room.  Adults $8, students $6.   In its 23rd year, this award winning drama program is always a delight.  Over 95 students from kindergarten through 8th grade participate—supported by hundreds of volunteer hours from parents, staff, alumni and students.

The Forestville Education Foundation hosts its 7th Annual Spring Fling Gala on Saturday, April 9th, from 4-8pm at Russian River Vineyards. Live music, silent & live auctions, food & wine, all benefiting programs for students at Forestville School and Academy. Tickets $40/adult:

In response to my query, ElMo responds:  “The progress of the moving along.  We have had some construction and weather delays…Our immediate goal is to patch the track so that it is in a usable state for the schools track season.  This will require that we patch the existing track instead of spray a new track over the existing one.  We need 20 days of consecutive good weather to spray a new track and we don’t think we will have that time before the schools first meet…The track will not be open to the public until the project is complete.  We anticipate that will be closer to the end of May and dependent upon dry weather…Once it is open to the public for after school hours use there will be no dogs (except service animals) allowed in the stadium.”
