Cazadero Communications - September 2015

Cazadero Communications - September 2015

by Natasha Pehrson

As I write this towards the end of August, the large redwoods outside of my airy cyber-hut are outlined by lovely sunshine. The dreadful heat and fire-polluted air of recent days has gone and we are once again breathing the usual fresh air of Cazadero! We of course must stay vigilant and keep our properties free of fallen brush, clear the roofs and be extra careful in using spark-causing equipment in this very dry time of the year.

The Montgomery Elementary School is back in session and the children on the move early in the day. Remember to stop behind the school buses and keep your eyes open for kids crossing the road.

The volunteers of the Cazadero Community Club are immersed in preparation for the upcoming (Sept.6th) Old Time BBQ, to be held from 12-5 at the Performing Arts Camp. Fabulous steak and chicken, with all the fixins’, games for kids, Bingo, fabulous dessert table, cold drinks by the Cazadero Firefighters, pie contest (organized by Susan Moll), wonderful ‘Chinese’ Auction) raffle and more! Tickets are available at the Cazadero and Duncans Mills Stores and Cazadero Supply. I have had the pleasure of collecting many unique raffle prize donations and thank the terrific merchants, including Treats and Toys, Duncans Mills Store, Mr. Trombly’s Teas, and The Rio Theater. You will be tempted by many special prizes!

The next regular meeting of the Cazadero Community Club will be Tuesday Sept. 1st, 7 p.m. at Firehall #1. Join your neighbors in planning great events which benefit the entire community!

I can’t say enough about the wonderful Community Celebration at the new Forestville Park, organized by Gazette Publisher Vesta Copestakes on August 12th. Close to 100 booths, including great food, produce, community groups and handcrafted items were spread out in the lovely oaks. If you missed it we hope that there will be another!

Cazadero Supply’s 1st Saturday 15% Discount Day offers great items for your home, garden and vehicle projects. Friday Music and Pizza Night at Raymond’s Bakery continues to draw many avid fans.

The Russian River Jewish Community will celebrate Rosh HaShana (New Year) of 5776 in the gorgeous picnic area of Armstrong Redwoods. Gather at 5 p.m. and enjoy beautiful music by Jubilee Klezmer Ensemble, honey and apples for a sweet New Year, traditional readings and delicious potluck feast. Please call 632-5545 for information. Free to members; small donation for guests.

Happy September birthdays to Vanessa Alexander, turning 34 on the 5th, along with Branum Spliethof, Jr. Charlotte Berry has her day on the 6th, Cindy H. from the P.O. celebrates on the 9th, Jessica Shepard will be 29 on the 14th, my good friend Dave Caplan will be 65 on the 16th, Rose Orlando-Griggs turns 28 on the 21st, Colin Desmond has his day on the 22nd, Jessica McBain will turn 33 on the 25th and Kaity Berry will be 22 on the 26th.

Enjoy the rest of Summer, drive carefully and call me at 632-5545 or email with info for your Cazadero Column.
