Cazadero Communications - August 2015

by Natasha Pehrson

A slight fog surrounds the tall redwoods outside of my airy cyber-hut on a warm summer day. A scant 1/4”of rain recently refreshed some plants, but it is very dry. Our neighborhood was visited by several Cal Fire firefighters who were checking our properties for good fire-safe practices. It is especially important to keep fallen debris raked up and roofs cleared. We certainly appreciate the efforts of our first responders and hope to only see them socially!

There are many enjoyable events coming up in our little corner of the world, including a ‘Come to Know the Poets’ evening at the lovely CazSonoma Inn on Friday, August 28th. Beginning at 6 P.M. the evening will feature live music, a tasty dinner and readings by 6 poets, including Cazadero resident and former Sonoma County Poet Laureate Mike Tuggle, plus Sashana Proctor, Bob Jones, Molly Bishop, Gail King and Lawrence Maykel. Please call 6325761 for more info and reservations.

The semi-annual Old Time BBQ will be held on Sunday, September 6th at the Caz Performing Arts Camp from 12-5 p.m. and is sponsored by the Cazadero Community Club. A fabulous steak and chicken dinner, with all the fixins’, beverages offered by the Caz Firefighter’s Association, delicious dessert table organized by the Community Church, the amazing ‘Chinese Auction’ raffle with a myriad of wonderful donated items, Bingo, kid’s games and Pie Contest organized by Susan Moll. Tickets are available at the Cazadero General Store and Cazadero Supply, and you may call Caz Club President MaryLou Porta at 632 9107 for more info and to donate for the raffle.

The next monthly meeting of the Caz Club will be held on Tuesday, August 4th-7 p.m. at Firehall #1, with several closer to the BBQ meetings after that. Join your neighbors in planning great events which benefit the entire community.

Raymond’s Bakery continues its Friday Pizza and Music Nights. The Cazadero and Duncans Mills General Stores offer daily grocery items and many locally produced specialty items.

The Annual Rummage, Yard and Barter Sale/Event will be on Saturday, August 8th, near the blossoming Sky Garden. Please contact Cathy at schezer@comcast.net for info and reservations-only $10.00 per space. Cazadero Supply, which offers a monthly 1st Saturday 15% Discount Day, will have a Sidewalk Sale that day, too.

I stopped by the new Russian House #1 restaurant at Bridgehaven on Hwy #1. The proprietor Paulina tells me they will open officially on August 1, with hours 11-9 every day. The menu will feature Russian food, with a local accent. I believe that this is the first Russian restaurant in the Russian River area!

Happy August birthdays to Andrea Feeney on the 1st, Ben Radtkey on the 5th, Ted Parmeter on the 8th, Nicole King celebrates on the 9th, Becky Chambers on the 22nd, Ryan Hartnett on the 23rd, Mari Parmeter on the 27th, Elizabeth Moeckel on the 30th and Michel Orlando-Griggs on the 31st.

I am not sure when the Montgomery Elementary School’s classes begin: probably in late August. So please be aware of children waiting for the school bus, plus cyclists, pedestrians and winery trucks.

Have a wonderful summer and call me at 632-5545 or email mayawrld@sonic.net with info for your Cazadero Column.
