Rio Nido Magic - August 2015

Rio Nido Magic - August 2015

Back to School

It’s hard to believe that school starts in a matter of 2-3 weeks. Back-to-school sales are being advertised every day. Summer just doesn’t seem to be as long as it used to be when I was growing up. This year the official day of Summer began on June 21st. With the various ski weeks and holiday weeks on the school calendars these days it appears that summer vacation has been shortened quite a bit. For those of us who have been fortunate to spend summer on the River, summer seems to last all the way to September. We are lucky to be graced by so called “Indian Summers”, when the weather is very warm. Sort of the last hoorah before we slide into the Fall season. The official start of fall being Wednesday, Sept. 21st.

Summer has been rather mild this season with a few rain showers, some fog and of course quite a few exceptionally warm days. It is such a wonderful time of year when sleeping with the window open is refreshing. It has been a magical summer here in Rio Nido. As much as I love summer, the fall and spring season are my absolute favorite.

The last of the Summer Events

A big round of applause to the RNHA for all of their fun filled family events this past summer. Not only are the events packed, they bring so much joy to so many summer revelers.

Thanks to Doug Misner and Beverly Bird for all their hard work this past summer season. Speaking of the RNHA, the last of the summer events are listed below:

1) The RNHA Annual Golf Tournament at Northwood is August 1st;

2) The Pancake Breakfast is August 2nd from 9am-12noon;

3) The August 2nd Art Festival is on the Homeowners grounds from 10am-3pm;

4) The Labor day Chicken BBQ is on September 6th from 4pm-8pm, music from 5pm-9pm.

5) Pee Wee Mini Golf closes the evening of September 6th for the season and will re-open next summer. A huge thanks to all the wonderful folks involved in volunteering at Pee Wee Golf, sprucing it up and bringing it to life!  You are rock stars!

Tomatoes from RN Veggie Garden

I am so impressed by the RN Veggie garden. A neighbor of mine has a plot of veggies and shares the fruits of his labor with me. I cannot believe how delicious the tomatoes are. All colors and sizes great for summer salads, pasta sauces and not to forget sundried tomatoes and fried green tomatoes. Magnifique!

Rio Nido Roadhouse News

Brad Metzger and Raena Jones are engaged! A big congrats to the happy couple!

There’s a New Kid in town

Congratulations to Kyle Magness (Willow Road) and Samantha Dalton on the birth of their first child, Troy Robert Magness. Born on July 7th at 12:26pm at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa. Weighing in at 7 pounds and 8 ounces and 18.5 inches long. Momma and baby are doing fine.

Pet of the Month

There is a new little chihuahua residing in Rio Nido. She is a sweet, tiny little girl who was dropped off at a shelter. She became withdrawn and on the brink of death when the Greendog Rescue Project scooped her up and gave her a second chance at life. Mia Mimi is two years old and the happiest girl ever. We found Mia through Greendog Rescue project, based out of Windsor, CA introduces a nature-based philosophy to the animal welfare industry. Their interests are to educate the community and industry in the methods and language of animals in an effort to improve the manner in which we house animals, and minimize the lives lost as a result of behavior issues, poor social skills and overcrowding. GDRP provides retention training and counseling for families struggling with the decision to keep their pet due to behavior issues that have failed in tradition shelters. Thank you Greendog Rescue for taking care of Mia. We feel blessed to have her join our family.
