Santa Rosa Snippets - August 2015

Santa Rosa Snippets - August 2015

by Jo Anne Cohn

Can’t believe that the end of summer is approaching and it’s almost time for the kids to be back in school. Where did the time go? Speaking of time…It’s been more than 3 years that I’ve been writing Santa Rosa Snippets for the Sonoma County Gazette. It’s time for me to hand over the reins to the next person. Could that be you? We are looking for a new person (or perhaps a group of people!) who would like to write a monthly article about Santa Rosa for the Gazette. If you are interested, please contact Vesta at

How fun is this? A loyal supporter donated a classic 1967 Karmann Ghia to the Sonoma County Humane Society as a reward for doing what they do for homeless animals. Now the Humane Society is raffling off this beauty. Tickets are $100 and a limited number of tickets can be sold. Here’s a great opportunity for old VW lovers to support our wonderful local Humane Society and maybe with the car they lusted after in high school. This one is the gold standard – the last year of the classic body type and 12 volts. Tickets can be purchased at the Humane Society (on Hwy 12) OR you can email and a volunteer will personally deliver your ticket(s) within 15 miles of the Humane Society. The drawing is Friday, August 14th so get your raffle tickets today!

5th Annual SOFA ArtWalk

This year’s SOFA ArtWalk takes place August 1st and 2nd in Santa Rosa’s SOFA Arts District. The event features fine art and crafts for sale in a variety of styles and media including painting, photography, sculpture, and more. SOFA artists will be on hand to discuss their work and answer your questions. There are multiple galleries all within a one-block radius featuring special exhibits: Gallery 300, A Street Studios, Seishin Studios, Backstreet Gallery, Jeremiah’s Photo Corner and the new Christie Marks Fine Art Gallery. The Chroma Gallery will be open and sponsors a backyard concert both days. Admission is free. SOFA (South A St. Arts District) is located just south of Julliard Park at the intersection of South A St. and Sebastopol Ave. in Santa Rosa.

Free movies in Howarth Park!

This fun-loving event series is back for another season! Bring the family, a picnic and a blanket for a lovely evening of film-enjoyment under the stars in Howarth Park – every Friday night from August 14 – September 18th.  Come at dusk and enjoy a FREE movie in Howarth Park. Actually, come a little early and see a variety of stage entertainment by local performers. And if you don’t have time to pack a picnic, there will be vendors selling food on the lower lawn.

Wait! There’s more!

Want to show off your business’s 30 second commercial or informational video to movie night attendees? In exchange for a $300 contribution to help cover event costs, your commercial will be played on the big screen before the feature at every movie night. This commercial will be viewed by a couple hundred families each week! To secure a “preview” spot, or for other sponsorship opportunities for this unique community experience, please contact Jeff at (707) 543-3298 or And thanks Whole Foods for sponsoring this event!
