Guerneville Groove - August 2015

by Beth Rudometkin

Pee-Wee GolfI must say that Guerneville is looking good this summer! So many renovations throughout town! Thank you to those businesses who have made a tremendous effort in revitalizing our groovy town! Not just on Main Street, but throughout the Guerneville area. Tom Glover, Pee Wee Golf and Arcade, has done an amazing job with his remodel. Not only did he renovate the entire façade, he added a fun miniature golf scene on the roadside at the entrance of the parking area. He called on his neighbors and other groovy locals who all pitched in and helped with the painting and remodeling. Great job, everyone!

Another upgrade in town is at the old Buck’s Restaurant, now home of The Juicy Pig. Chris and Julie Aff, Shawn and Ruben, have done an amazing remodel of the upstairs “Trophy Room” and dining hall. As you know, Ruben (formerly with Cork’s in Forestville) is a fantastic chef, so be sure to go give The Juicy Pig a try! (Word has it that one of our long time local servers, Cheryl Sundberg, is there as well).

Suzy, who is now the formal owner of Andorno’s Pizza, has had the painstaking job of the remodel on the Plaza. Chuck Burger and his crew have installed a beautiful patio area and we look forward to its completion, so we may enjoy this groovy, new addition! Great job Suzy and Chuck!

Speaking of the Plaza, August will bring plenty of groove with Rockin’ on the River, our free community concerts. This month on August 13th we will be enjoying The Sun Kings, a Beatles Tribute. On August 27th, be sure to check out Dan Hicks / West Coast Jive ‘n’ Jazz Icon. No mention if the Hot Licks will be joining him...

Pegasus Theater Company is presenting A Midsummer Night’s Dream August 7th – 30th at the Riverkeeper Stewardship Park in downtown Guerneville (below the bridge on the Plaza side). Be sure to enjoy this classic Shakespeare with an “Adult Russian River Bent” and support your local artists.

After 24 years, the Riverkeeper’s Appreciation Festival, aka “Riverfest”, needed a renewed focus to meet the challenges facing the Russian River caused by our changing climate. Today, we know that shifting weather patterns will force us to change our daily lives if we expect the Russian River to continue supporting our community and wildlife. The River Awards Gala will honor and highlight the people, businesses and farms that are leading the Russian River to a more climate resilient future! It will also help educate our community on the actions the awardees are taking, to increase out resiliency to climate impacts such as our current drought and recent floods. Please join us at the River Awards Gala at Shone Farm in Forestville! This will be a really groovy event with Senator Mike McGuire as the auctioneer, sumptuous locally sourced dinner, live music and our world-class local beer and wine. Come out for a night filled with fun and laughter while supporting the Russian Riverkeeper. We need your support by sponsoring this Gala, via attendance and donations to the silent and live auction. The event will take place October 3rd, but we need your donations and ticket purchases NOW! Please contact me, Beth Rudometkin, at Community First Credit Union for more information and donation forms. Get your friends and co- workers together and purchase a whole table seating! There are several sponsorship levels to choose from and individual seating is available as well. Come see me or call me at 869-9063 to reserve your table/seating or to offer your generous, groovy, tax deductible donation!

Enjoy the rest of your groovy summer!
