Saturday August 22nd is the 17th Annual Russian River Car Show 8:00-3:00 at the MR Community Center. Come early for the great pancake breakfast.

Russian River Alliance and Monte Rio Community Alliance will be hosting a Give Back Tuesday on August 11th at the Rainbow Cattle Company. $5 dinner. Come support your community organizations. Monte Rio Community Alliance is planning a community yard sale to take place in September. The Alliance is also excited to be bringing Nextdoor to Monte Rio. is a private social network that currently has over 64,000 neighborhoods nationwide. The site is great for neighbors interacting on issues such as garage sales, local events, reporting suspicious activity/crime, lost pets, etc. There are already Nextdoor neighborhoods established in Guerneville, Guernewood Park, Northwood, and Austin Creek areas. Our neighborhood is “Downtown Monte Rio”. Due to some unique aspects of Monte Rio, it has taken some time to bring Nextdoor here. Nextdoor verifies your address. If you have physical mail delivery verification is easy. If you have a PO Box, you will need to email them a copy of your utility bill, or better yet, email me before signing up to be invited and to be verified upfront. Visit for more information.

Business Loans: With the economy picking up, so has business loan activity. Sonoma County Economic Development Board assists local businesses in obtaining financing by providing free consultants. If you need assistance in obtaining financing, either to purchase commercial real estate, purchase a business, expand your business, or just need a micro-loan to take your business to the next level contact me.

Nominations: Monte Rio is seeking new Board member Nominations for the Monte Rio Recreation & Park District Board – being accepted now through August 7, 2015.  Contact the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters for forms and information about other requirements for candidates by calling 707-565-6800 or visiting their office at 435 Fiscal Drive, Santa Rosa. MRRPD Board Elections are November 3, 2015.

Play Golf! Ready to get outdoors, get some exercise, meet new friends? The Russian River Senior Center now has golfing at Northwood Wednesday mornings at 10:30. Interested in getting out on the tennis courts? Contact me and we will try to get some players teamed up.

Public Safety: Safety is always a priority issue and with the busy summer months, more so than ever. Chief Steve Baxman requests that when parking, please make sure there is room for emergency vehicles to pass. Concerning river safety, the MR Fire Fighters Association has purchased and installed additional signage at the beach, and Monte Rio Rec & Park District is working on obtaining life vests for free use, and is also working on sponsoring swimming lessons.

Have a Seat: Last but not least, a few organizations such as Monte Rio Community Alliance and the Monte Rio Fire Department, along with neighborhood volunteers, maintain our Park & Ride lot. Lately there have been several new wooden benches added to the lot. They are rustic and blend in perfectly. Thanks to Craig for making the benches and installing them!

Please contact me if you have topics or suggestions for next month’s column. Happy August!
