Cazadero Communications - July 2015

Cazadero Communications - July 2015

by Natasha Pehrson

As the Solstice nears, the early sunrise and longer daylight hours encourage us to be outside. The majestic redwoods around my airy cyber-hut are outlined by clear blue sky. The grads have graduated, Father’s Day meets with the first Day of Summer and many weddings are planned.

The Cazadero Community Club is currently focusing on their biggest fund-raising event, the fabulous Old Time BBQ, to be held on Sunday, September 6th, from 12-5 p.m. at the Cazadero Performing Arts Camp. Many volunteers are needed to present this quintessential Cazadero celebration, which was begun in 1979 and has always featured the participation of the Fire Department and the Community Club. Expect a great tri-tip and chicken BBQ, with all the fixins’, dedicated “Chinese Auction”, Bingo, children’s games and cool beverages sold by the Cazadero Firefighters Association. Great pie baking contest will be organized by Susan Moll. Luscious desserts, including contest pies, will, be offered by the Cazadero Community Church. You may buy pre-event tickets(requested) at the Cazadero General Store or call Mary Lou at 632-9107 for reservations and other BBQ info. Be sure to check the Gazette’s August issue for historical pics. Join the Caz Club in planning wonderful events which benefit the entire community at the next monthly meeting-June 7th at 7 p.m. at Firehall #1.

Cathy Schezer of the great Sky Garden is again hosting the annual Rummage Sale, Flea Market, Recycle & Barter Day on Saturday, August 8th, 9-4 p.m. Spaces are only $10.00 and you need to provide your own tables, shade, etc. Please call 632-5743 for reservations. There will be food available and a sidewalk sale at Caz Supply and the Caz Store.

Another great local event is the Salad Luncheon, wonderfully presented by the St. Coleman’s Ladies Guild. This year’s will be on Tuesday, July 28th, also at Fire Station #1.from 11:30 a.m. Please call Mary Lou at 632-9107 for your reservations, which are only $15.00. A lovely day, with delicious salads, and pleasant hospitality.

Raymond’s Bakery continues to have Friday Pizza Nights, with wonderful live music. Remember Cazadero Supply’s 1st Saturday 15% Discount Day, with many great items for your home, garden and vehicle projects. The small town of Duncans Mills continues to amaze me with its prolific shops and eateries, and I do recommend many of them. The Duncans Mills General Store, ably run by Cazaderans Darryl and Justine, has delicious made-on-site ‘Cowboy Jerky’ and other smoked meats, Fresh produce, everyday groceries and many specials such as Caz Gal’s Glycerine soaps, entice local and visitor alike.

St. Coleman’s Catholic Church holds Mass each Sunday from Memorial Day to Labor Day at 11 a.m at their outdoor church, located 1/2 mile north of Raymond’s Bakery on Cazadero Hwy.

Check the website for CazSonoma Inn – – for their event updates. A lovely spot, the Inn has a good restaurant and perfect wedding sites.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Peg Canelis, who passed recently at the age of 91. A true grande dame of her community!
