Sonoma and Mendocino coast National Marine Sanctuaries Celebrates

EVERYONE invited to celebrate newly protected ocean waters along the Sonoma and Mendocino coast in the expanded Cordell Bank and Greater Farallones national marine sanctuaries.

This FREE EVENT at the Gualala Arts Center combines art, science and fun for everyone. Enjoy sea life print-making, seabird games, shipwreck information and stunning underwater imagery. Talk with marine life experts about their latest research findings. The community event will also include live music by Aaren Harris and the Farm Band, and food vendors.

Ceremony and celebration of expansion of Cordell Bank and Greater Farallones sanctuaries north along Sonoma and south Mendocino coasts. Dance and ceremonial naming of sanctuary by Pomo Indian bands.

Saturday, June 28, 11:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m.

Gualala Arts Center, 46501 Gualala Road (Old State Hwy.), Gualala, California 95445. Take Highway 1 to Gualala Road and follow signs for the event.

Speakers include Congressman Jared Huffman, former Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, Mendocino County supervisors Dan Hamburg and Efren Carrillo, and representatives from NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries. Two local Pomo Indian bands - Kashiya and Manchester - will be represented in dance and ceremonies.
