Cazadero Communications - June 2015

Cazadero Communications - June 2015

by Natasha Pehrson

Writing this from my cozy cyber-hut, I can see masses of clouds and some sunshine peering through the large redwoods. It is very dry here in the forest and I have become a bit nervous regarding the possibility of a wildlands fire. I implore you and any visitors to be very careful using power equipment and lighting campfires.

June offers lots of activities here in our pretty corner of the world. I congratulate the 2015 graduates of the Montgomery Elementary School and will list their names next month.

Please attend the next meeting of the Cazadero Community Club, which will be held on Tuesday, June 9th (not the 2nd due to the special election) at 7 p.m. at Firehall #1. Join in helping your neighbors plan great events, which benefit the entire community. Next up is the fabulous Old Time BBQ, Sunday, September 6th at the Cazadero Performing Arts Camp. Delicious BBQ, dessert table, fun games and traditional ‘Chinese Raffle”, Bingo, pie baking contest, live music and drinks offered by the Cazadero Firefighters Association.  Many volunteers are needed. Advanced tickets are available at the Cazadero General Store, Duncans Mills General Store and you may call 632-9107 for more info and to offer your time.

The wonderful Salad Luncheon, sponsored by the St. Coleman’s Guild, will take place this year on Tuesday, July 28th, beginning at 11:30, also at Firehall #1. The incredible assortment of tasty salads and convivial atmosphere make this a must attend! Please call Mary Lou at 632 9107 for reservations. See you there!

The CazSonoma Inn presents a fascinating celebration of the Roaring Twenties ‘Gatsby and Trinity’ on June 12, 13 and 14, plus June 19, 20 and 21. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Cazadero Performing Arts Camp and the very entertaining evening includes dinner. Please check their website and call proprietor Rich Mitchell at 632-5255 for further information.

The Cazadero Supply’s 1st Saturday 15% Discount Day continues to offer a terrific assortment of items for your vehicle, garden and other projects.

Speaking of gardens, the lovely Sky Garden blooms downtown. Please contact Cathy at to volunteer.

The Farmer’s Market has begun again at the Guerneville Plaza, and Raymond’s Bakery’s stand has great baked goods. Hours are 3-7 on Thursdays and the great rocking’ the River live music series commences on June 18th – every 2nd Thursday until September 11th. FREE!

Duncans Mills continues to offer great shopping and eating opportunities-many businesses are run by Cazadero folks. The new ‘Treats and Toys’ next to the P.O. is open daily and the friendly candyman Mike, promises a good selection of both treats and toys! Gold Coast has a wonderful deck out back and great coffee beans and drinks, plus flaky pastries and pizza. Across the Hwy, Mr. Trombly’s Tea has a stupendous array of teas and related ephemera. The Blue Heron has food and live music and Cape Fear’s Cal/New Orleans food is always well prepared. The DM General Store has tasty sandwiches, smokes their own jerky and features local wines, smoked salmon, meats and Caz Gal soaps. ‘Twice as Nice’ next to the General Store has an interesting array of household and decorative items.

I heard that the recent Red Cross Disaster Site Trainings at the Baptist Camp have gone well.  Please contact Bonnie Chase at 632-5394 regarding any future training opportunities.

I wish a Very Happy June Anniversary to Toni and Ted Parmeter – their 12th is on June 7th. My dear husband Gregorio and I will celebrate our 45th on June 21st!

Happy June birthdays to Bob Kelly on the 1st, Jesse Abend turns 32 on the 5th, Don Berry on the 10th, fellow Caz Club member and great community volunteer Linda Baswell on the 12th, Jeff Parmeter on the 15th and Marsha Weidmann has her day on the 20th.

Congrats to all grads, Dads and newlyweds in the lovely month of June!
