Rockin’ Homestead Tour

Sonoma-Marin Saving Water Partnership’s Eco-Friendly Garden Tour

In collaboration with the Sonoma-Marin Saving Water Partnership’s Eco-Friendly Garden Tour, the City of Cotati, the City of Petaluma and the Town of Windsor, Daily Acts is hosting a Rockin’ Homestead Tour on May 16th, 2015 from 1:00 – 4:00pm.  This popular guided tour is free and will feature bountiful, water-wise gardens with a homestead twist.

Tour participants will learn water-saving strategies and garden tips from homeowners while perusing gorgeous gardens and mingling with neighbors. Highlights will include greywater systems, rain water catchment, sheet mulched lawns, bioswales, drip irrigation and water-wise plants be they edible, medicinal, native or otherwise. Of course no homestead tour would be complete without a few chickens, bees and DIY projects, so these resiliency-building features will be showcased as well.

In addition to exploring home scale and community gardens, participants will also tour Daily Acts model landscape sites at Pocket Park in Cotati, Cavanagh Community Center in Petaluma and Robbins Park in Windsor. These ‘food forests’, which mimic natural forest systems using food producing plants, were created through volunteer events to convert lawns into lunch. Tucked sweetly into neighborhoods, these lush landscapes produce an abundance of food, habitat, and medicine for the local community.

Join Daily Acts for this inspiring day and walk away with a bevy of techniques and resources to conserve water, save money, grow food and create a flourishing landscape!
