I’m an idealist. I don’t know where I’m going, but I’m on my way.”

Wait before you dig up your lawn! Save $$$ by sheet mulching it.

Having been the first in our neighborhood to sheet mulch our lawn then planting a mix of shrubs, California natives and bird and bee feeding perennials, we now face a final farewell to grass. Gophers’ massive excavations make it easier to say good-bye. Once again we will sheet mulch and plant low-water natives. Our summer goal is a 75% water usage reduction.

Cotati Station hosts first SMART Train April 7, 2016

Five hundred eager visitors came to tour Cotati Station to enjoy a long awaited pleasure of touring a new Smart Rail Train. The proud engineer, Rachel, drove the Smart Train all the way from Illinois. Much of the track work in Sonoma has been completed. We browsed the information tables; spoke with Smart Train representatives, both Japanese and American. Good to see plenty of bicycle hanging bars. We plan on using them for trips to San Rafael, Healdsburg and Cloverdale.

Among the last visitors, we ambled and remarked on the electrical outlets for each seat, tabletop arrangements for business and student use and the convenience of overhead storage. We questioned Smart Operations Manager, Tom Matoff. How long is the trip from Santa Rosa to San Rafael? Answer: 67 minutes. He informed us that top speed for Smart Trains is 79 miles per hour.

A big shout out to Lombardi Catering for a first class spread. We said hello to Community Service Officer Peoples. Peoples, along with another female officer seemed to be enjoying the station and the tasty ripe strawberries and pineapple.
