Cazadero Communications - May 2015

by Natasha Pehrson

It is a warm, clear Spring day as I write this in my airy cyber-hut! I just heard on the radio that we may get some more rain in a few days and I do hope that will happen. Although my allergies have definitely been impacted by the lovely  blossoms, I appreciate the pretty flowers that abound on the coast and in the hills.

The Cazadero Community Club has elected 4 new Officers at the recent meeting: President: MaryLou Porta; Vice-President: Kim Gluch; Secretary: Susan Moll; and Treasurer: Maureen Berry. I thank them in advance for their community spirit! Four scholarships were awarded to upcoming El Molino grads from Cazadero, along with funds from the Cazadero Firefighter’s Association. The next CCC meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 5th, 7 p.m. at Firehall #1. Do come and help plan events which benefit the entire community. The Old Time BBQ will be held on Sunday, Sept. 6th at the Music Camp and many volunteers are needed for this traditional fundraiser.

Bonnie Chase tells me that there will again be a Red Cross Emergency Shelter at the Baptist Camp. Special training will be will offered on Friday, May 8th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and also on Monday, May 18th. Please call Bonnie at 632-5394 regarding this vital resource.

I attended the recent Pole Mountain Breakfast at the Firehall and enjoyed a tasty meal, served by cheerful El Molino and MES students. Many folks were happily contributing to this very important institution.

The Cazadero Community Church offers services each Sunday at 10 a.m, with Bible Study Wednesdays at 7:30.

The students and staff at the Montgomery Elementary school are very busy as the school year ends in the near future.

Be sure to shop the Cazadero Supply’s 1st Saturday 15% Discount Day with useful items for your garden, vehicle and household projects.

The lovely Sky Garden is growing daily. Please contact Cathy at schezer@comcast.net regarding volunteering.

On Wednesday, May 6th, there will be a meeting at the Monte Rio Community Center. from 6-8 p.m. regarding which county roads need work and the road conditions. Please email or call me with any of your special concerns before then, as I intend to add my 2 cents.

Raymond’s Bakery offers up delicious baked goods and festive Friday Pizza Nights, along with live music. Many of their products are also available at local farmer’s markets. Both the Cazadero and Duncans Mills general stores continue to have both basic groceries and wonderful specialty goods, many grown or produced locally.

I want to wish Jim and Joyce Berry a very happy 41st Anniversary on May 4th, Harriet and Ken Parmeter will celebrate their 53rd, and Cathy and Dennis Schezer will enjoy their 32nd.

Happy May Birthday wishes to Marisa Hemenway on the 4th, Mike Kelly on the 5th, Miranda Hope on the 13th, Cazadero born and bred Tara Caplan on the 15th, Christopher Quinn-Kelly on the 17th, Brittany Parmeter on the 24th, Althea Johnson will turn 23 on the 26th, Donnie Grider celebrates on the 27th, Merlin Velasquez-Greer turns 20 on the 30th, along with Greg Parmeter on that date.
