SRJC Black History Month Event:
“Black Lives Matter Legal Discussion”
Thursday, February 19th
Bertolini Student Center-Dining Commons (Santa Rosa Campus)
6:00 p.m. (Free Admission)

February is Black History Month, and the Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Black Student Union will host special guest speaker Charlotte “Mama C” O’Neal on February 23, 2015, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Bertolini Student Activities Center. Also, on February 19, SRJC will host a professional panel discussion entitled “Black Lives Matter.”

The panel discussion will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Dining Commons of the Bertolini Student Activities Center located on 1501 Mendocino Avenue. $4 parking permits are required and available on campus lots. Both the lecture and panel discussion are free and open to the community. 

Charlotte “Mama C” O'Neal is an accomplished poet, musician and visual artist, and a Founding Director of Tanzania's United African Alliance Community Center (UAACC), a community-based organization which promotes community development in rural Africa. 

With her husband, O'Neal has spent decades working with rural and urban youth in that country, inspired by their previous activism with the Black Panthers in the U.S. The O'Neals have been featured in the recent documentary Mama C: Urban Warrior in the African Bush and in the award-winning PBS documentary A Panther in Africa.

The “Black Lives Matter” professional panel will include special guests: Hon. Jeanne Martin Buckley (Ret.), former Sonoma County judge and instructor at the SRJC Criminal Justice Training Center; Brien Farrel, Esq.; Hon. Anthony Wheeldin; Gail Flatt, Esq; Nancy Ann Palandati, Esq.; Carolyn VanDyke, Esq.; Matthew McCaffrey, Chief of SRJC Police.
