Whats Up in Windsor - February 2015

Whats Up in Windsor - February 2015

What to do for Valentines?

February is the month of Love.  Valentine’s falls on Saturday night this year, making it the most perfect date night.  It will be a busy night of this year, be sure to make your reservations early.  Windsor has several romantic dining spots to take the ones you love.  Reserve the high back booth in the corner at Saigon Bistro and escape to the Pacific Rim.  Sit at the sushi bar at Ume Japanese Bistro and be adventurous, order something you wouldn’t normally eat and watch the master sushi chefs prepare your food.  Request a quiet booth at KIN Restaurant and order a bowl of spaghetti to share and hope you end up eating the same string of pasta.  Get rowdy for Valentine’s and celebrate at the bar at Patterson’s Pub or snuggle around the fire pit at The Jaded Toad with fish and chips or maybe some oysters?  You can even get away with some smooching in the dark corner at Tomi Thai Restaurant, share an order of delicious spicy drunken noodles and go home happy.  Don’t forget a gift!  I love old things, how about bringing back an 18th Century tradition and give that special someone in your life a golden key (be it 24kt or gold plated).  The key is a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock your heart, ahhh.

Help the Windsor Historical Society save local history.

Have you been to the Hembree House Museum in Windsor?  It is a beautifully restored historical home with walls that reveal the history of this small town that was just a stop on a busy State Highway.  I love the stories of all the local characters who shaped this community.  They also grow heritage hops out in front each year from local hop field seeds.  If you have never seen them grown be sure to visit in August when the vines stretch up 2 stories high and are full of the sticky grain clusters.  Come join the Museum folks at their 6th Annual Polenta Dinner on February 28th, 6 pm at the Windsor Community Center.  The evening includes a full dinner, including wine and homemade biscotti for dessert, plus, auctions and a raffle full of fine local wines.  You can also see and meet Museum Curator, Steve Lehman when he speaks at the Windsor Grange Hall 410 on February 19th at 7 pm. Purchase your tickets, learn more about Windsor and make a donation at
