Guerneville Groove - February 2015

Guerneville Groove - February 2015

by Beth Rudometkin

Hard to believe it is already February of 2015! Time sure goes by fast in our groovy town! Seems like we always have something happening to keep us together as a community. That’s what I love about Guerneville. Our sense of community spirit really is above and beyond any other place!

We have a great team working on the upcoming “Best Pride Weekend Ever” according to Chuck Ramsey, it is slated for the first weekend in June and the committee is busy at work with the planning! If you are interested in helping out, email Chuck at There will be a fundraiser at the Rio Theater on February 14th with local treasure Bobby Jo Valentine and his wonderful music, thoughts, and a short film. Bobby Jo has been dubbed “The nicest guy ever to pick up an acoustic guitar” by LA Weekly and he has also been recently featured in Ford commercials. Come on out and enjoy this wonderful performance and show your support with Sonoma County Pride! Tickets are $15; for more information go to

Community First Credit Union continues to collect warm clothes at the local Guerneville Branch located on the corner of Armstrong Woods Rd and Main Street. January-February’s collection is hosted by the El Molino Interact Club along with Social Advocates for Youth (SAY) and West County Health Centers. Please make sure those groovy coats, sleeping bags and blankets are only slightly used and are clean. Your continued support of those less fortunate is very much appreciated! Also, remember that Andrea at Mill Street Thrift is in dire need of men’s shoes to be given to those in need as well.

Every First Friday, I truly love walking all over town and enjoying our local artists displaying their groovy and fabulous works of art!  Be sure to check out this month’s Art Walk, Friday, February 6th. Artists begin their displays at 3pm and there will be various receptions throughout town. Don’t forget to visit the Blue Door, where you can participate in creating an art project!

Every 2nd Thursday of each month, 7-9pm, the Marshall House at Russian River Senior Center hosts West County Discussion & Support Group Meetings held by the Prostate Awareness Foundation. We are all searching for the best way to avoid prostate cancer and BPH, or if you have it, to survive and avoid recurrence! Statistics indicate that cancer patients in support group settings live twice as long as those not involved, so what are you waiting for?! For more information please email Ken Malik at

The Russian River Alliance continues its work with our Air Quality District to ensure that this winter won’t be a repeat of last year! If you are experiencing poor air quality either from open burns or improperly operated wood stoves, email They have many helpful tips in teaching us how to burn and get a clean hot fire that actually produces more heat for the money and less smoke!

Did you notice that Mi Casita is back? YES! The original owners have returned to our groovy town and are offering fresh and tasty Mexican food!  Be sure to patronize this restaurant and welcome the Gonzales family back to our community! They have a long history with our town and we are happy to see them back serving up their delicious meals!

Until next time, keep on groovin Guerneville!
