Moorland Neighborhood Park Kick-Off Celebration in Santa Rosa/Roseland

Moorland Neighborhood Park Kick-Off Celebration in Santa Rosa/Roseland

On January 31, 2015, Sonoma County will host an event to celebrate the kick-off of a joint community and county planning process to design a park that reflects the Moorland neighborhood. The event will take place at the newly acquired park site (3399 Moorland Avenue) at 1pm, and will bring together the community and a diverse group of local leaders to celebrate this milestone.

“I am thrilled that this day is finally here, and am looking forward to continuing to work with the Moorland community as we embark on the park planning process,” said Supervisor Efren Carrillo, whose district includes the project site.

Residents, community leaders, and local officials will speak at the event, and Aztec dancers will bless the land. Continued celebrations, lunch, and music will follow.

“The Moorland neighborhood has been in need of a park for many years, and with neighbors in the lead of the design process, this community project is finally moving forward”, said Senator Mike McGuire, who will be speaking at the event. “I know the State will be an active and engaged partner with neighbors, Supervisor Carrillo and the Board of Supervisors along with community partners to ensure the park benefits generations to come.”

Assemblymember Mark Levine, who will also be speaking at the event, said “I see this beautiful open space and see an opportunity for our community. My hope is that this park is an important step in healing and bringing us together. We become stronger when we stand together, united in the knowledge that we are working to improve our community.”

“The Board of Supervisors is proud to support this park, and is dedicated to a collaborative planning process that will empower the voices of neighborhood residents,” said Board Chair Susan Gorin. Opportunities for residents to share their thoughts about the future park will be announced following the event.
