Big John's Market donates $12,000. to Meals on Wheels

Big John’s Market in Healdsburg recently sponsored, for the fourth consecutive year, its “Feed a Senior” campaign, with proceeds benefiting Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program. Over a three-week period in November and December, customers contributed $6,071.77, with John and Kim Lloyd, owners of Big John’s, matching the amount raised, bringing the total donation to $12,143.54.

“We are grateful for the support that the Lloyds and Big John’s customers have shown Council on Aging over the years, and the assistance they have provided to hungry seniors in our community through Meals on Wheels,” said Marrianne McBride, President and CEO of COA.

The Lloyds first became involved with Council on Aging in 2009 when Board member John Reyes talked to them about the MOW program. “Through John and  Marrianne, we became aware of how many homebound seniors don’t have regular access to nutritious meals in Sonoma County,” said Kim Lloyd. “We wanted to help meet that need.”

The Meals on Wheels program provides about 300,000 meals to homebound seniors in Sonoma County every year.  The Lloyds have also helped support the MOW program through purchase of auction items at the Meals on Wheels Derby Day, a fundraiser hosted each May by Council on Aging.
