Tchaikovsky Discovers America at Green Music Center, Rohnert Park

Tchaikovsky Discovers America at Green Music Center, Rohnert Park

On Sunday, January 25, the Santa Rosa Symphony presents “Tchaikovsky Discovers America,” the second of three performances in this season’s Sonoma Paradiso Foundation Family Concert Series in Weill Hall at the Green Music Center. More than 25 excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s most beloved music are magically woven into the drama as two actors from Classical Kids Live! recreate historical incidents in the great composer’s life, including his arrival in new York City for the grand opening of Carnegie Hall in 1891. The music begins at 3 p.m. and pre-concert fun, including an Instrument Petting Zoo, begins at 2 p.m. Richard Loheyde conducts the orchestra.

Among the musical excerpts on the program are “Trumpet Fanfare,” “Danse napolitaine” and “Waltz” from Swan Lake; “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies,” “Tea,”(Chinese Dance)  and “Chocolate,” (Spanish Dance) from The Nutcracker, and “Violente,” and “Panorama” from Sleeping Beauty.

This is the third year that Santa Rosa Symphony has partnered with Sonoma Paradiso Foundation for the Family Concert series. In addition to underwriting these concerts for the general public to enjoy at an affordable price, Sonoma Paradiso Foundation gifts 600 tickets and invites community organizations supporting disadvantaged and at-risk children, as well as developmentally  challenged youth and adults, from all over Sonoma County.
