Web-based Regional Wellness Initiative launches in North Bay

Web-based Regional Wellness Initiative launches in North Bay

St. Joseph Health is expanding its web-based, regional wellness initiative in the North Bay. Due to the success of Live Healthy Sonoma County in 2014, St. Joseph Health is extending access to the program into Napa County and the surrounding area. The expanded program, Live Healthy Wine Country, is co-sponsored by Woodruff Sawyer Insurance Services and the Western Health Advantage insurance plan.

Live Healthy Wine Country helps businesses and community groups stimulate a culture that promotes health and physical activity by providing turnkey, low-cost and team-oriented activities and challenges. These are tailored to employers and community members throughout the region. The program offers an innovative approach for implementing a new wellness program or for taking an existing wellness program to the next level. Teams are open to two to 10 participants per team and many companies and community groups have assembled multiple teams, based on the level of interest at their organizations. Program materials and resources are available in both English and Spanish.

During the past year, 1,633 participants working at 25 organizations throughout Sonoma County participated in the Live Healthy program. Participants in the most recent challenge, the Step 2 It Challenge, logged a total of 65.8 million steps. By the conclusion of a 10-week Wellness Challenge last winter, participants had collectively lost 902 pounds and logged just over 21,000 hours of activity.

Gregg Sisneros, Human Resources director for Petaluma-based Alvarado Street Bakery, said, “Our employees have been very engaged in the Live Healthy Sonoma County program and participated in all four challenges. The challenges and other activities offered by the program brought about a friendly competitiveness and allowed our team to set achievable goals for wellness. As a result, we have seen a greater sense of morale, as well as healthier, happier employees.”

If you are an employer or community member who wants to participate in Live Healthy Wine Country, please email Jeannie Calverley, area manager of Employer and Community Relations at St. Joseph Health, at or call (707) 975-2314.
