Sonoma County prepares for Winter Storm Emergency Services

Sonoma County prepares for Winter Storm Emergency Services

County Officials monitoring the situation and working with community providers to expand homeless shelter capacity

The National Weather Service is currently forecasting a strong winter storm to pass over Sonoma County beginning today, Wednesday December 10th, and continuing through Friday.  Strong winds, heavy rainfall, and some flooding of rivers and creeks is anticipated.

The County is closely monitoring the situation, and is prepared to open the Emergency Operations Center if needed.  The County’s Homeless & Community Services Team has conducted intensive outreach to shelter operators to identify expanded capacity to shelter the homeless during the storm.  A list of these providers and their capacity is attached, and information can also be obtained through 2-1-1 and the Catholic Charities’ Cold Weather Hotline at 707-800-2027.

The Transportation and Public Works Department will be stockpiling sand this morning for local residents along the lower Russian River.
