Guerneville Groove - December 2014

Guerneville Groove - December 2014

by Beth Rudometkin

Happy Holidays Everyone! I truly believe this is my favorite time of year along the Russian River ...the crisp air, the beautiful colors of the trees and vineyards, the misty fog in the mornings and the contrast of the bluest sky against the tops of the autumn colored trees is just amazing!

What better way to spend a cold winter night or two, other than in downtown Guerneville! Thursday, December 4th will be the annual Merchant Open House & the Great Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Merchant Open House will begin at 4pm with your local businesses offering food, drink and sales specials to kick off your holiday shopping. Listen for our local carolers and also rumor has it that Santa will be visiting our Tree Lighting on the Plaza sometime between 7 and 8pm. Don’t forget that Justin at Guerneville Parcel Box Plus can make sure all of your packages will be delivered in time for Christmas! Friday, December 5th will be the Holiday Prince/Princess Crowning Ceremony and Raffle Drawing! There are several contestants in the running this season, so please attend the ceremonial dinner to witness the crowning of this year’s Prince or Princess and their court. To be held at Chef Patrick’s beginning at 6pm; tickets are only $35 per person and the winning raffle tickets will be drawn after the dinner. Community First Credit Union and Vanguard Properties once again have sponsored the $500 Certificate to be awarded to the 2014 Prince or Princess and all of your local businesses have contributed several groovy prizes that you can win! Saturday, December 6th is the 14th Annual Parade of Lights! This year’s theme is “Miracle on Main Street”. Don’t miss this spectacular parade that will surely warm your hearts and put smiles on our children’s faces!

ONOZ did not renew their lease, but there is a new restaurant in the works located in the same space. 3Alarm Fire will be opening soon and we are looking forward to seeing all of the fire house memorabilia that is rumored to be displayed! Another groovy rumor is that the space next to the water company, formerly Twice Told Books space, is transforming into a smoothie shop!

Friday, December 5th is the monthly First Friday Artwalk. Be sure to stroll throughout our groovy town to see all of our unique artists and their works! Just to name a few, Marilyn Livingston, glass artist, will be showing at the Kuhr-Norris gallery, located upstairs with June Bug Skin Care, where the paintings of Chantelle Goldthwaite will be displayed. There will be several artists set up on our side walks, as well as all of the galleries located along Main Street and Armstrong Woods Road. Please don’t forget Carport Gallery along the “Rio Nido/Gville strip” on Old River Road! They will be displaying Nutsack Creations and John & Diz’s work is a must see! They are entering a well-known fashion show and competition in San Francisco and will be displaying their groovy, ecologically sound couture for us all to enjoy, so please do visit and support them and enjoy the fashion show, live music and DJ Damien!

Congratulations to the newly elected and remaining Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors! Laura Wilson/Johnson’s Beach, Scott Johnson/Russian River Realty, Clifford Pratt/Lark Drug, David Blomster/Dick Blomster’s, Pat’s Restaurant & Bar; Blomster Art Gallery, Herman G. Hernandez/Sonoma County Office of Education School Board, Debra Johnson/Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Rachel LeGrand/Russian River Getaways, Jennifer Neeley/West County Health Services, Karen O’Brien/River Villa Resort, Peter Wierzbicki/Financial Services, and Holly Stockon. The Chamber will be having its annual Holiday Dinner on Wednesday, December 10th at The Village Inn with diners supporting River to Coast Children’s Services by donating gifts and/or gift cards at the dinner. For more information call the Chamber at 869-9000.

Please don’t forget the annual Pours for Good Causes at the R3 Hotel & Resort Bar on Christmas Day! This groovy Celebrity Bartending sponsors the Russian River Sisters, Senior Center, River to Coast Children’s Services, Food for Thought and Face to Face. If you are unable to attend, please show your support and sponsor one of the bartenders ahead of time by committing to a monetary donation. Of course my favorite, grooviest tender will be Russ Anger, VP of Lending at Community First Credit Union! Feel free to drop off your sponsorship/donation at our local branch of CFCU here on the corner of Armstrong Woods Rd and Main Street.  I will make sure it gets to him! Also, Community First Credit Union is collecting warm clothes, jackets, gloves, hats, blankets and sleeping bags for those in need. Please drop off your gently used items at the Guerneville Branch!

Here’s wishing you and yours the grooviest, happiest, warmest of Holidays!
