Guerneville Groove - November 2014

by Beth Rudometkin

Once again we have re-fallen in love with the River Area. Our vacation was absolutely groovin, but it’s always feels good to come home. Crazy thing happened while in Austin; Crista from Boon/Big Bottom was staying at the hotel right next door to us! Go figure!

So we have a lot of information to catch up on, as usual, our town always has plenty of groove going on. The First Wednesday of the month, November 5th, is the Chamber of Commerce Mixer, which is being held at Betty Spaghetti/R3. This will be the official election of the new Board of Directors, so please be sure to attend and also, be sure to get your vote in to the Chamber Office! I understand there are several groovy people who are willing to commit to the next year or more, so let’s show them our support by attending!  Speaking of the Chamber, it is that time of year again for the Chamber to look for young men and ladies to participate in the Holiday Prince/Princess contest! Candidates will sell raffle tickets throughout town and local businesses, participate in the parade of lights, be rewarded 10% of their sales and the winner will receive a $500 Certificate sponsored by Community First Credit Union & Vanguard Properties! If you are interested, please contact Herman Hernandez, Jr. at 707-287-6698. Here is a quick timeline of the groovy holiday happenings: Thursday, Dec 4th is the Tree Lighting Ceremony & Merchant Open Houses, Friday, Dec 5th is the Prince/Princess Dinner & Crowning Ceremony at Chef Patrick’s, Saturday, Dec 6th is the Parade of Lights... this year’s theme is Miracle on Main Street. Be sure to get your creative flow going and enter a groovy float!

Friday, November 7th is the First Friday Artwalk. Our local artists will be sharing their beautiful works throughout town and there will also be some refreshing receptions at various galleries as well.

On a sad note, Buck’s River Dinner Theatre has closed. Hopefully we will see a new business in that location soon! Amber has opened her groovy new salon on River Road next door to Country TireAgapé Salon is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9-6. One of our favorite groovy bartenders, Mary Mount, is serving up libations on Mondays at the new Northwood Bar & Restaurant! Go see Mary after 3pm! TRIO is offering everything on their menu on Wednesday evenings for $12! They still have the $5 Tuesday night burger, but that conflicts with Give Back Tuesday at the Rainbow Cattle Company. Tuesday the 11th is the fundraiser and Toy Drive for Mama’s Family, Tuesday the 25th is the fundraiser for the Christmas Community Dinner and Tuesday, Dec 2nd is the fundraiser for World AIDS.

Saturday, Nov 22nd at the Guerneville Library at 1pm is the Young Writers Essay Contest Awards Ceremony, which will be presented to the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who submitted an essay to the contest, sponsored by the River Friends of the Library. Be sure to attend and support our youth! Reminder, the library will be closed from November 26th – November 28th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Look for the article in this issue regarding the Empowerment Center. There was a meeting on Sept. 23rd comprised of the Guerneville Community Church, Guerneville School and the Community Family Service Agency to discuss concerns of the use of the Church for the center, next to the school. Please stay informed and educated on this matter as it affects our students, as well as those in need of the centers services.

Until next month, enjoy your Thanksgiving and stay groovy!
