I enjoyed Sunday, October 8, as a crispy clear, warm Fall day in public service: starting at our Fire Department’s free pancake breakfast, then staffing the City table at our crowded Farm Market on The Plaza, and concluding with a poignant goodbye to our Open World visitors from Ukraine, at a lovely outdoor dinner.

Walking home from the Council’s special meeting at Parkside School, I witnessed an incident of dangerous driving familiar to many of us. As I approached the crosswalk at Bodega and Washington, a car stopped for me. I didn’t immediately enter the crosswalk because I was watching the second car back to see what it would do.

This annual fundraising event has three epic Wine Country back road routes of varying distances and difficulty to appeal to cyclists of every skill level.  All three routes offer excellent scenery and are supported with mobile support (SAG) vehicles and crews.  There are also five fully staffed rest stops along the routes for participants to rest, rehydrate, and get a bite to eat.
