Windsor Farmers Market honors Seniors, Moms and Kidz in May

May is National Older Americans Month and the Market has joined with the Windsor Senior Advisory Commission, theWindsor Senior Center and many local businesses to offer something special to “Seniors” for the month of May. Did you know that there are 985 citizens in Windsor over 80 and 40 percent of those live alone without daily social contact other than their Wheels on Wheels delivery. Many of the local groups in town are working to gather volunteers for home visits of these isolated older Americans during the month of May. You can contact the Windsor Service Alliance or the Windsor Senior Center to do your part to help. The Farmers Market will be offering 2 “Golden Bucks” to all older Americans over 65 who come to Market on Sundays in May. Visit the Market Information Table for your Golden Bucks.

The Windsor Farmers Market will be hosting Mother’s Day on Sunday,May 14th, 10-1 pm on the Town Green. The Markets bakeries, BurtoNZ Bakery, Red Bird Bakery, Cookie…take a bite! And Grizzly Bear Toffee will be hosting a cookie and tea tasting with teas from Market tea merchant, Mark from Tea & Trumpets. Bring all the important ladies in your family for brunch in the park and tea and cookies for dessert.

The Market will be hosting Kidz Day on the Farm on Sunday,May 21st, 10-1 pm. The Town Green will be full of farming, planting and cooking fun with the Corn Bin for toddlers, Country Games, Kidz Dig It Cooking Classes from 11-12 and free Balloon sculptures with Oops the Clown.

Local youth bands will be playing and in between sing-a-longs with Hank. Events with Sole will be hosting their Annual Windsor Half Marathon on the same day,May 21st. The racers are off and running by 8:30 am and then the Market Vendors move in and set up shop for all Marathon families, guests and runners to enjoy when they return. Fresh lemonade and juices to replenish the moisture, fermented veggies to keep a strong gut and healthy meats, fruits and veggies to stay strong.

Eat like a King at the Windsor Rotary Lobster Feed on Saturday,May 20th at 4 pm. The event will be held at the Windsor Boys and Girls Club, 9640 Brooks Rd. There will be local Beer and Wine Tastings, Live and silent auctions and lots of live music. Visit windsorrotary.org for tickets.

Instructor Marcia Singer, MSW, is offering 2 classes this summer thru Windsor Parks & Recreation. Classes are 5/7-6/4 and 6/11-7/16, alternating Sunday mornings, 10:30-11:45. Basics in Mindfulness/Meditation, Manifesting Magic, law of attraction, realizing goals. There is a discount for Windsor residents. Soroptimist-International is holding a special fundraiser-luncheon on Saturday,May 20, from 11 AM to 2 PM. Catering will be provided byWorth our Weight. The luncheon will be held in a lovely garden setting on Pleasant Avenue. All proceeds from this event will go to support academic awards for women and girls who are pursuing their educational goals, and for holiday gifts for needy Windsor families.
