Summer JOBS, Internships, and Volunteer Opportunities at the Sonoma County Fair

There’s only one thing better than going to the Sonoma County Fair… and that’s being part of it!Temporary jobs,internships and volunteer positions are available for the 11 day Holidaze-themed Fair, comingAugust 3 -13 to the fairgrounds in Santa Rosa. Positions are open for team members with varied skills and abilities. Apply now for an up-close experience with the Fair and to play an essential role in making this year’s Sonoma County Fair run like a tried and true holiday tradition.

Applications are available now for temporary jobs at the Fair. Are you an animal lover? If so, check out opportunities to work in Sweet Lil’s Farmery or in the barn as a member of the livestock crew. Positions are also available for folks with mechanical, janitorial and grounds maintenance skills.
 
Jobs in the Operations Department include ticket sellers, gate attendants, crossing guards, grandstand ushers, and tram drivers. Special events assistants get to interact with guests in the children’s area, at the information booth and during the daily parade.Applicants must be 16 or older (by July 1, 2017) with a valid work permit (if required) andbe available to work the entire two weeks of the Fair.
 
If you do not get called to work for the Fair, you may be able to work for a concessionaire (food booth) or for the Carnival. Come to the fairgrounds a day or two before the Fair starts and ask at the various food stands. Some are from out of the area and hire local help for the run of the Fair. The carnival hires local workers and traditionally begins hiring the week before the Fair opens. To apply for a job, go to the carnival lot and look for the hiring trailer.

JOB POSITIONS – NOT ALL–INCLUSIVE

ENTRY OFFICE

  • Livestock Office
  • Entry Clerk / Building Monitor (over 18 yrs preferred)
  • Barn / Livestock Crew (over 18 yrs preferred)
  • Sweet Lil's Farmery

MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT

  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Janitor

OPERATIONS (ADMISSIONS/PARKING/GRANDSTANDS)

  • Admissions Ticket Seller (must be at least 18 yrs)
  • Admissions Gate Attendants
  • Parking Ticket Seller
  • Crossing Guard
  • Flagger, Gate Attendant
  • Tram Driver (Class B license preferred)
  • Grandstand Usher

SPECIAL EVENTS

  • Special Events Assistant

SHOW USHER

  • Show Usher (minimal hours)

OTHER POSITIONS

Volunteers are also needed and truly loved at the Sonoma County Fair! These positions give you an active role in the Fair, with the chance to interact with your community in a truly meaningful way. Plus, you get FREE tickets! As a volunteer, you’ll receive 2 admission tickets and 1 parking pass for each day you volunteer. Shifts are from either 12:00 pm-4:30 pm or 4:30 pm-9:00 pm (with a 20 minute break). You’ll use the parking pass and one general admission ticket in advance of your shift to get into the Fair; the additional pass is complimentary to use as you like. Over 300 shifts are available as building attendants in the Finley Building, Kraft Building, Garrett Building and the Hall of Flowers. Help is also needed in the Kids Area and on the Holiday Squad. Groups from companies, organizations or families, may want to consider volunteering together. Group volunteering is a fun way to bond while supporting the local community. It’s also a great way to promote your business or organization to the Fair’s 270,000 guests—an opportunity the Fair provides to you for FREE!
 
Looking for the perfect summer internship? The Sonoma County Fair loves to work with students—to help them apply their strengths, learn new skills and network with people in our community. The Fair is currently looking for a Publicity & Marketing Intern. Applications will be taken until the position is filled, but don’t delay! Interviews are now in progress.
