Rio Nido Magic by Elena Chronis - July 2017

Rio Nido Homeowners Association It has been a fun filled start of summer after a seemingly wet, long and harsh winter. The HOA has been on top of their game with all of their fun filled events. The Memorial Day BBQ was a wild success with hundreds of guests enjoying the lovely weather, food and beverages. The Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast was a terrific way to start off the day and was a packed house. Mark your calendars for the Hamburger/Hot dog night on Sat, July 1st from 4pm-9pm. .

Pee Wee Golf A shoutout goes out toLinda Selhorn’s leadership over the last few years in making Pee Wee Golf a source of pride andCaren Wadley for keeping it open for all the summer kids to enjoy. What a big change. Your hard work is noticed and appreciated. Goes to show when you get the right people to manage it who care about this Community then good things start to happen. Thank you for all your efforts and showing the love. Bravo!

Fire in RN Last week there was trouble in our Community garden. A branch fell onto two PG&E lines and ignited a fire. There were quite a few blazes in total. One on the side of a redwood tree, another on a patch of the garden’s tool shed and another on the side of a Bay tree. The flames were 20-30 feet high. The Bay tree ignited immediately. A huge thanks to all the folks involved in risking their lives to put this fire out. I was not there to see it, but I understand there were 4-5 neighbors putting it out with hoses, fire extinguishers and blankets. A few good Samaritans fighting these blazes were Donavan Smandra andPip MarquezDe La Plata of Canyon 6. By the time the Fire Dept showed up the blazes were extinguished. PG&E needs to be held accountable and must check and replace old lines every year. This could have been avoided if PG&E did their due diligence. This could have been a serious fire. My understanding being that there was a fire in this exact spot a few years ago.

Friends of Rio Nido Thanks to (FRN) another VERY successfulCommunity Cleanup took place in the front parking lot of the RNR this month. Thank you to the Ratto Group and to everyone involved in beautifying our tiny slice of heaven. Speaking of FRN, an updated FRN packette is being put together and revised for RN’s residents with contact info and other new information. We are looking for volunteers to assist with distributing these door to door. If interested email:frnboard@rionido.net.

RNR’s 10th Anniversary Celebration Brad & Raena Metzger celebrated the RNR’s 10th Anniversary with a big shin-dig held at the RNR with music and a BBQ. Hundred’s of guests came out to enjoy good food, music and the newly refurbished pool in this sweltering heat.

RN Sign Update As I have mentioned before, we are getting a second RN Sign to be placed on River Road with the Winky Moon. This has been years in the making and it is on its merry way. SERIOUSLY, it really is! Currently FRN is working with the County to schedule a short lane closure to put up the sign. A big thank you goes out to Ingrid Emming for all her hard work and perseverance.

RN Pet of the Month Klash is the RN Pet of the Month. He is a bona fide hero. A trustworthy companion who woke his human family to alert them to get out of the house to a fire twenty feet away. Fortunately the firefighters were able to come out in time to put the blaze out. A true friend and trusted fur baby family member.
