Starting this Wednesday July 19th Deputy Daniel Avina will join the staff out at the Russian River sub-station in Guerneville to focus on the homeless issues the community has been experiencing. Deputy Avina will work with residents and businesses in the lower river area, addressing the myriad of issues relating to homeless encampments, including problems with loitering and drinking downtown.
The assignment of Deputy Avina to the substation is a temporary measure to boost efforts related to homeless in the community. His work schedule will be Wednesday-Saturday from 7:00am to 5:00pm, but his hours are flexible allowing him to attend community meetings and events. he can be contacted via email at Daniel.Avina@sonoma-county.org.
As soon as he gets a local phone, he will be accessible by phone as well.
Over the next few weeks Deputy Avina will be traveling around the river communities with other sub-station deputies observing and learning the “hot spots” and issues the communities would like addressed. Even though Deputy Avina will be the primary liaison from the substation to the residents and businesses, all substation deputies will continue to respond and address homeless issues when Deputy Avina is on his days off, and when there is a heavy volume of calls for this type of service during his work week.
Deputy Avina, Sergeant Russell and Lt. Molinari will be in communication on a regular basis to review progress and keep channels of communication open for the community.
