I got lost in Forestville the other day. I overshot my intended turn. Ended up in an unfamiliar neighborhood. As I drove through I was struck at how different this section of Forestville was from mine. Some of us live in sweet neighborhoods with sunny gardens. Some of us are on ridge tops overlooking a vineyard, the river, or both. Some of us cling to hillsides hoping our trees hold the soil during winter rains. We all call Forestville home. It’s interesting to explore our town’s neighborhoods. The more we understand each other, the better community we create.
New Downtown
Scoops of Sonoma Ice Cream Shop is open. They are downtown, tucked into a space near Tiny Town coffee shop. My husband discovered a new favorite, their amazing brownie sundae with Peanut Butter Chocolate ice cream. They have lots of yummy things in there, in addition to their super rich ice cream. Stop in and say hello and get a taste. You won’t be disappointed.
A big welcome to T.J., the new manager at Rotten Robbie’s. He came here from the Todd Road store and has transformed the place. Go in and say hi. You’ll find a clean, organized and welcoming place. He’s enjoying meeting the Forestville folks.
Make a Difference Youth Style
What did your kids do this summer? I bet it can’t top Milo Munson’s summer project. He grew and harvested over #100 pounds of vegetables and donated them to Food for Thought. I can’t even imagine how much dedication and plain hard work that was. Well done! And who says one person can’t make a difference? He’s inspired us all. Thanks Milo!
Speaking of youth, girls’ basketball, boys flag football and co-ed cross country are off and running at West County Charter School, with home games throughout October. Their fall play will be “Arsenic and Old Lace.” Principal Kirsten Sanft invites parents to attend Board meetings. Find the information at the WSCUHSD website. She says the transition from being Forestville Academy to being under the High School District is going great.
Upcoming Events
El Molino High School Boosters are hosting apig roast on October 7 to celebrate the new school year. It will be at our Youth Park, and anyone over 21 is invited. In addition to roasted pig, there will be a live band, great beer and wine. Plan on a fun time. Bring your credit card to participate in the auction. All proceeds benefit our very own high school. Remember teens, there is after-school tutoring Monday’s and Wednesday’s in the library from 3-4.
The Methodist Church has a Good-Will Donation Drive Saturday, October 14 from 9-2. They will have a huge truck to accept your donations right from your trunk, and the Church gets a cash donation back in return. Call about restrictions, which Goodwill may have, at 887-2020. Preparations are also underway for the much anticipated November Church Craft Fair.
All around Thanks to the Forestville Chamber and the FPA from Mary Rand, our Forestville Certified Farmer’s Market manager. She especially appreciates all those Tuesday evening customers who showed up to shop and hang out. And acknowledges the support of the local businesses for their generosity this year. “You keep the vision alive” she says, and like her, I hope it continues. The Fall Craft Fair, the Business Expo, the music and all the fun events she helped create brought many of us together in our own downtown park.
The West Sonoma County workgroup of Sister District.com is sponsoring Walk it Blue, a casual walk, run and bike event on the Sonoma County Regional Trail starting at the Forestville Community Park in downtown Forestville Saturday, October 7 from 9-11 a.m. Join us for a walk, run, bike or just to hang out. Suggested donation is $20 to help flip the State House of Virginia from Red to Blue. All donations go directly to the candidates. There will be hundreds of dollars in prizes including gift certificates to West County restaurants and special wine tastings.
