August is Child Support Awareness Month

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has acknowledged

“This year, the California Department of Child Support Services celebrates parents who make the effort to be an exceptional example in the lives of their children,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Shirlee Zane. “In managing over 13,000 cases, the Sonoma County Department of Child Support Services collected and distributed $33 million last year for families, demonstrating a commitment to our children, and ultimately in shaping the future of our community.”

Sonoma County leads the state in increased collections, distributing 13% more than last year. To help all parents set the best example for their children, the Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) offers a wide range of services to assist parents, including partnering with Human Services and Sonoma County’s Family Court to connect families with public assistance, conducting high school outreach programs, and donating school readiness backpacks. DCSS has also expanded payment options to make it more convenient for parents to make support payments, including a payment kiosk in the department lobby accepting cash, checks, and credit cards.

DCSS is committed to providing support to families and promoting healthy and successful children in our community. The Department celebrates parents who support their children and joins the State of California and 50 local child support agencies throughout the state that recognize Child Support Awareness month with the message, “Give them something great to imitate.”
