Sebastopol Little League Celebrates 60 Years Serving Kids
Started in 1957, the Sebastopol Little League will celebrate its 60th season at its 2017 Opening Day, Saturday, April 1st. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. and be held on the large field at the Laguna Youth Park, 425 Morris Street, in Sebastopol.
President Lou Castleberry said that the League is trying to reach all players from the first teams in 1957. “We’ve made contact with 17 of the players,” explained Castleberry, “but we’d like to reach more. The men would be in their late 70’s. The League would like to honor all of the players, or their surviving family members, at our Opening Day festivities.” Castleberry can be reached through the League’s website: sebastopollittleleague.org.
Once only a boy’s organization, Little League now serves boys and girls, ages 4 through 15. All players, coaches, managers and their teams will be on the field in uniform on Opening Day. “I’m very proud of our program that teaches baseball skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship,” bragged Castleberry. “My father, Chip Castleberry, started playing in the League in 1958. I played in the League as a kid and have been coaching teams over the last 7 years. Many of our coaches are former players and we have several third-generation players.”
Everyone is welcome to attend Opening Day and participate in celebrating Sebastopol Little League’s 60th Anniversary.
