Sonoma County Dance Beat's April Foolery

By Ann Hutchinson

Sonoma County Dance Beat celebrates three years of bringing Sonoma County a free, valuable, live-music calendar. April Foolery is an annual movable feast, celebrating live, local music and funding the free calendar.

Sonoma County Dance Beat's third annual April Foolery: The Blues Defenders, Wendy DeWitt, Levi Lloyd, and many more.

Friar Tucks 8201 Old Redwood Highway, Cotati, 94931, $10 at the door, 21 and over. Costume contest, door prizes, raffle and six hours of dance music!

The Blues Defenders, have been delivering solid, soulful blues in the county for decades and have been the backbone of the famed ProJam that has been happening every Monday night for __ years, hosting guests artists such as Blues Music Award winner and saxophonist Terry Hanck, Shana Morrison, Elvin Bishop, Johnny Rawls, Daniel Castro, Queen of Boogie Woogie Wendy DeWitt, and many more.

Bass player and bandleader Donny Mederos has shared a stage with Tower of Power, Doobie Brothers and Buffalo Springfield, and is West Coast bassman for Johnny Rawls. Matt Silva has recorded with two members of the Jerry Garcia band, toured with Crystal Wind, and recently toured with Rawls in Europe. Bruce Gordon (Zydeco Flames, Bruce Gordon and the Acrosonics and many more) plays keys; Jeff Piche adds harmonica and lead vocals, while Nick Otis (Johnny Otis' son) plays drums, keeping it all together.

Wendy DeWitt plays boogie woogie and blues that has garnered national and International attention. Veteran blues guitarist Levi Lloyd is one of the most hard-working musicians in the county. He hosts a pro workshop twice a month at Twin Oaks Roadhouse.

This year's event will be at Friar Tuck's in Cotati, in the space that was once the famed Inn of the Beginning. Friar Tuck's owner Cheryl Nixon caters to the SSU crowd and knows how to make folks feel welcome.

Guests are invited to Jesterize! Unlike accessorizing, the intent is to NOT match. There will be costume contest prizes, door prizes and raffle.
