Petaluma Christmas Bird Count for Kids

Celebrate the holiday season with kids birding…

Come join us for the 8th Annual Petaluma Christmas Bird Count for Kids; a half-day of birding designed for kids ages 6-14. This event is co-sponsored by the Petaluma Wetlands Alliance and the City of Petaluma Parks and Recreation Department.

Date: January 7, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.

(Register by January 5, 2017)

Where: Check-in at the picnic tables near Shollenberger Park's main entrance. Parents must attend with their kids and provide any necessary transportation to various wetland areas.

Activities: We will go birding in teams of six kids with each team accompanied by experienced adult birders. We'll walk the trails in areas such as Shollenberger Park, Ellis Creek Water Recycling Facility, and Alman Marsh. We'll count every bird we see.

We'll meet back at the picnic tables at 11:30 A.M. for a Tailgate Pizza Lunch and talk about what we observed.

What to bring: Binoculars (if you have them), a hat and layered clothing, comfortable shoes or boots, and $3.00 per person for lunch to be collected at check-in.
