Geyserville Grapevine - deTraci Regula - November 2016

Here at the Isis Oasis Sanctuary the recent rains have given us the greens of spring along with lower temperatures. We are replacing heat lamps for our birds and beasts and otherwise weatherizing for the coming season. My prediction? A colder winter, so we are carefully making repairs, adding insulation, and increasing the amount of straw for the dens

One of the highlights of the winter season here is coming up on Saturday, December 17th, when once again we have the honor and joy of hosting Diana Stork and the Bay Area Youth Harp Ensemble as they present a magical evening of solstice songs, Christmas carols, and other sounds of the season. Tickets are $15, with an optional buffet dinner for $20. Seeing these beautiful young harpists arrayed across our stage with their golden harps as the songs play is a lovely way to spend a winter evening, and we hope that everyone can come and share in it. Call us for reservations at (707) 857-4747.

More immediately, we have the annual Illuminated Tractor Parade here in Geyserville on November 26th, along with the arrival of Santa Claus and Christmas carols around the community tree at the Park and Ride. This year, as I mentioned previously, the roads will actually be closed for the parade so do expect some impact on traffic patterns during about 5pm - 8pm that Saturday night.

Teen Volunteer Opportunities

We are happy to have joined into a partnership between Isis Oasis Sanctuary and Geyserville High School to offer volunteer opportunities for students to fulfill their graduation requirements. Students can help with our bird and animal collections and in our organic permaculture garden. If you have a teen who needs volunteer hours, please contact us.

Foodie Moment of the Month

Francis Ford Coppola’s Werowocomoco at the Virginia Dare winery in Geyserville got off to a good start with a free evening event this past month. If you watched your mailbox, you received a postcard offering a couple of complimentary menu items. We especially enjoyed the bison ribs and bison burger, both of which were full flavored and fun to eat. If you are expecting a more formal dining atmosphere like Rustic at Francis Ford Coppola’s main winery, think again. This is closer to a deluxe cafeteria experience with a huge painted buffalo skin presiding over the dining area and a band of sparkling stars in the dark ceiling up above. You can check it out for yourself at 22281 Chianti Road, Geyserville, CA 95441 (707)735-3575. It’s open daily, 11am-6pm.
