Bay Area Non-Profit Starts Pilot Programs for Women’s Leadership in Mexico

Executive Director of Women’s Global Leadership Initiative (WGLI), Diana Ruiz, will be traveling to meet with representatives from government and professional organizations in the Mexican state of Sonora to begin partnerships for a pilot program for women’s leadership education. The planned pilot program will begin February 2017 in Hermosillo (Sonora’s state capital) and will be the test launch for subsequent programs in cities throughout Mexico.

Ruiz will be meeting with Sonora’s Secretary of Culture and Education, Ceforma (Training Center for Women), Canaco (National Chamber of Commerce), Canacintra (National Chamber of Industry and Transformation) along with other representatives from local and national government, women’s professional organizations, and students and professors from local schools and universities. Throughout the visit, Ruiz hopes to engage additional partners and participants in the Sonora state area to attend and evaluate the San Francisco non-profit’s leadership pilot program.

“The main goal for WGLI is to make our Core Leadership Development Programs available to women throughout Mexico,” said Ruiz.

“It is such a privilege to be meeting with so many local organizations as well as government officials who are interested in bringing our programs to Hermosillo and the state of Sonora. We are amazed at the current readiness and support we are already receiving and the interest in implementing these programs to inspire a new generation of women’s leadership in Mexico.”

WGLI’s Core Leadership program is taught by highly-skilled local professionals who work with local women to teach them core competencies through skill-building exercises and active discussions. Attendees learn and seek guidance in areas including team building, conflict management, emotional intelligence, gender communications, project management, negotiations, financial literacy, and career planning.
