Rio Nido Magic - October 2016

by Elena Chronis

Fall/Harvest Season:

October has arrived. The morning chill in the air, the change to burnt oranges, reds and vibrant yellows adorns our trees and vineyards and a myriad of gourds and pumpkins brighten and warm our northern California landscape. Undoubtedly, the most colorful time of year. The sunrise slowly rising a bit later in the crisp and cool mornings. Such a favorite time of year for many of us signaling the holiday season is quickly approaching. Halloween is one of the most exciting holidays of the year and the anticipation of deciding on a costume no matter your age still brings smiles to everyone. Next stop is Thanksgiving. Time sure flies when you are having fun.

Russian River Rec & Park:

It’s been an eventful summer here in our tiny hamlet of Rio Nido.  Rec & Park have been steadfast in maintaining our little enclave. Just last week they were repairing the wooden fence posts that surround the RN Dog Park and maintaining our recreational area. The dog park, children’s playground and garden have never looked so pristine. Thank you Rec & Park for all your hard work so the rest of us here can enjoy the beauty that is Rio Nido.

Rio Nido HomeOwners Association:

Doug Misner, President of the RNHOA and I spoke the other day. The HOA had a very successful summer with all of their BBQs, pancake breakfasts, art show and other events. The turnouts at these events this year have been stellar. Has anyone noticed the sprucing up of the HOA grounds? Its looking really fresh and tidy. New paint has been appied to the buildings and Pee Wee Mini Golf is cleaned up and all of the decorations have been stored away for the winter.

Rio Nido Roadhouse news:

Brad and Raena, proprietors of the RNR got hitched at the RNR last month. It was a beautiful day for such a wonderful local couple to get married under the redwoods. A memorable day and a big congratulations to the newlyweds.

The RNR is hosting an exciting upcoming event: When? October 16th from 2pm-4pm entitled Art Salon. Its a learn to paint special event for $20.00. The featured artist is Kathryn. $20.00 includes paint, canvas and brushes and for an extra $10.00 to include some yummy small bites to nosh on. Check it out.

Friends of Rio Nido (FRN):

Has anyone noticed the RN Fountain? FRN power washed the fountain and cut back all the shrubbery and spruced it up for our Community to enjoy. It really needed a good cleanup. A big thanks to Pip Marquezdelaplata for power washing it and to Larry Tocmakidis for loaning out the power washer.

illyRio Nido Pet of the Month

Lily is a Treeing Coonhound. She comes from Kentucky via Rescue for North Bay Beagles where they find homes for beagles and hounds that are at high risk for being euthanized. She was a year old when she came to us and was horribly abused, then abandoned in a wooden box on the side of the road and left for dead. When we took her in she was very frightful of people, nervous around any noise and liked to hide in the corner. We are happy to report that she is learning to trust and is affectionate and such a wonderful part of our family.  She is sweet and loves her morning ritual where she performs a perfect pirouette while she is waiting for her bone. Lily makes all sorts of sweet noises and coos when she is asleep. Her big floppy ears are soft and when she shakes her head sounds like a whip cracking. We love our Lily and so do our other dogs, one who is also a coonhound from Rescue for North Bay Beagles. Happy new life for a sweetie after a very rough start.
