Latinos and Voting:

Did you know that every 30 seconds a Latino citizen turns 18 and becomes a potential voter? Are you registered to vote? You have until October 24th to do so and as long as you are a U.S. Citizen and turn 18 by November 8th (election day!) then you are good to go. Just make sure you register to vote before October 24th. You can pick up a registration form at our station office at 1700 Corby Avenue in Santa Rosa.

Did you know that Latinos are the fastest growing demographic in the U.S. right now and will wield unprecedented political clout in this year’s election cycle? In fact, millennials (those who are 18 to 35 years old) make up a whopping 44 % of all Hispanic eligible voters. And, according to the Pew Research Center, since 2014, twice as many Latinos have registered to vote as a Democrat than as Republican. But regardless of your political persuasion, the most important thing is to be sure that you are registered to vote for this year’s very important presidential election. Tune in to KBBF radio for lots more election programming and information.

KBBF Interns

It is back to school time and we are once again seeking student interns who are interested in learning all about working inBilingual Radio. If you are a student at Sonoma State or Santa Rosa Junior College and would like to be considered for a semester long internship, please contact us at 707 545-8833. There are a number of areas that a KBBF intern works in, including sound editing, radio production, underwriting, journalism, event planning and much, much, more.  Go ahead and give us a call if you are interested in working with KBBF Radio this fall semester.

KBBF Events in October

We are super excited about our October events! On October 22nd we will have our 3rd annual Trunk or Treat event from 5-9 p.m. This is the event where kids trick or treat from the trunks of decorated lowriders while showing off their fabulous costumes. We had lots of beautiful cars last year, so you do not want to miss this very special annual KBBF event. Souleros Ball Revue will be spinning the oldies. KBBF will be selling Tamales, Nachos, pizza, popcorn, hot chocolate and pan dulce, and even some beer and wine for the adults (inside the Carpenter’s hall only).

And be sure to catch KBBF at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds for this year’s Sonoma County’s Science Discovery Day on Saturday, October 29 from 11am to 5pm! There’ll be lots of fun hands on learning all about science. The goal of the Science Discovery Day is to inspire children and young adults to pursue studies and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, (STEM), so bring the whole family to unleash their inner scientist. There is free admission and free parking!

KBBF is 100% Listener Supported

So why not help out and give to a cause well worth listening to? Your financial support means a whole lot to us, particularly during our special 2016 year-long matching period where all our financial donations (up to $50,000) will be matched by a very generous anonymous donor! What a great way to support Latino Heritage Month by donating to the very first, bilingual, public, radio station in the country, KBBF Radio 89.1 FM. Mil gracias to all our wonderful listener/supporters.

KBBF Wants You!

Persons who are interested in volunteering and offering talents that contribute to their community through KBBF are also invited to call the station during the day at (707) 545-8833 or send us an email to our General Manager at vylma@kbbf-fm.org. We are particularly looking for people who are team players, friendly, bilingual and interested in social justice, communication and community engagement. Prior radio experience is a definite plus but never required!

KBBF Board Meetings

They happen the last Saturday of every month and it is where you can learn even more about all the great goings on at KBBF Radio. Our next two meetings are September 24 at 10:00 am and again on October 29, 2016. Come by and meet our brand new KBBF board members, Caroline Banuelos, Lisa Maldonado and Alicia Roman. Learn how to get involved in your bilingual, community, radio station and be the change you want to see!
