Healdsburg Highlights - September 2016

City Council Takes Up Space

The Healdsburg Council on August 17 took up the issue of what to do with the space occupied by the Cerri building. They came up with plans to keep the building, provide as much parking space as possible, provide public restrooms and a kitchen for public events, and provide a permanent home for the Farmer’s Market.

One woman who attended the Aug. 17 meeting said: “After a great presentation from the City on 4 options, here is the short synopsis: Overwhelmingly 90-95% of people spoke in favor of Option 1: Retain, Renovate, and Repurpose Existing Structure, $3,089,591. The Farmer’s Market people spoke in favor of Option 3: Remove and Reconstruct (Agrarian Context), $5,066,250. Everyone wants the Market to have a permanent home, but feel tearing down a historic building that could be a secondary downtown community event center is not the best option for a parking lot or the Market that would only use it 28 days a year. The city voted to look at a 5th option which was to save the front part of the building and look at paving the back part. They also agreed to consider Option 1 but have it include closing the street between the Cerri Building and the current Farmer’s Market location, so the market could spill into the street on Market days. There was also a lot of talk about needing parking  and adding a parking lot in the outskirts of town and shuttling people in, like small towns in Europe.”

The Roundabout is Working!

There have been a few naysayers regarding the roundabout currently under construction. But many more have had nothing but praise: “Love that roundabout! Even with those cones it is a dream.”

“After reading all the negative remarks about the roundabout, I was terrified to “enter the zone”. Easy-peasy! I love it!”

“Yes. Faster and easy. It will be nice when it’s also beautiful.”

‘Masks Puppets Games’ at Healdsburg Center for the Arts

The person seeing a mask vs. the person wearing it, the puppet vs. the puppeteer, players on opposing sides of a game. Artists interpret the masks we wear, puppet people and games we play in real life and in the imagination. The exhibit runs from Sept. 1 through Oct. 16. The opening reception is on Sept. 3.
