Geyserville Grapevine - deTraci Regula - September 2016

Driving east along Highway 128 recently on the way to Calistoga mid-August, I noticed that the grape leaves were already beginning to turn in spots. The handfuls of orange leaves against their still-green companions made for a beautiful contrast. While days have been warm, the nights seem to be cooling down substantially and I have the sense that it is going to be an early autumn and possibly a colder than usual winter. We’ll see how good I am at predicting the weather!

Here at Isis Oasis Sanctuary we are renovating enclosures and preparing for the change in seasons in many ways. One change is unfortunately not so seasonal – Deb Nunes, our long-time cat care supervisor, is leaving us for new adventures on the coast. While we’ve benefited from four years of her passion for the exotic cats who continue to reside here, her other calling is as an experienced living-edge sound, light, and alternative and complementary therapy practitioner.  The perfect opportunity to help establish a new sound healing clinic has arisen on the coast in Gualala at Optimal Resonance. In addition to therapy sessions, she will also be presiding over regular “Healthy Happy Hours” at the facility and taking sound healing therapies to the next level.  While we hate to see her go, we  wish her the best of luck on her new venture! She can be contacted at Optimal Resonance at (707) 694-8186 or by email at debra@optimalresonance.

Foodie Moment of the Month

Once again, I stretch a little out of “official” Geyserville over to Jimtown, where I recently enjoyed a fabulous early evening at the Hawkes Winery at their monthly get-together. The night I attended, the menu included a smoky duck confit and homemade sausage cassoulet kept warm on the grill with a bright organic salad accompanied with their rosy Vin Grigio. I’d hoped to keep room for the gruyere macaroni and cheese, but the cassoulet proved more than enough for my appetite, and feasting on the view of the soon-to-be-setting sun over an ocean of green vines filled in any possible extra space. There is one more of these delicious events planned for this season, on September 16th. The winery is located at 6734 Highway 128, directly adjacent to the Jimtown store.

And for next month, fellow foodies, be prepared for the first ever Beer, Wine and Spirits Festival at the Geyserville Grille. Tickets for this fun beer, wine, and spirit-tasting event and the associated appetizers and light bites are available and selling fast on Eventbrite. Just search on Geyserville, CA, United States or the Geyserville Beer, Wine and Spirits Festival to bring you to the page - or if you’re accessing this article on line, just click here: eventbrite.com/e/geyserville-beer-wine-spirits-festival-tickets-26234318553?aff=es2.
