Celebrate Art & Nature at Calabash,
Food For Thought’s Beloved Gourd Art Fundraiser

By Khysie Horn, Food For Thought & Calabash volunteer

What is Calabash? It’s a silent auction—and so much more—benefitting Sonoma County’s Food For Thought. This festive event celebrates the harvest season, our beautiful organic garden, and the generous community of artists who contribute handcrafted gourd and book art to FFT each year. This year’s event happens on Sunday, October 2 at Food For Thought in Forestville from 15 pm.

Since our very first Calabash festival way back in October 2000, themes relating to the intersection of nature, creativity, community, and healing have been heartfully woven into and throughout the event.

It’s an exciting time for us at Food For Thought. We’ve expanded our life-giving nutritional services to support people living with HIV and other serious illnesses throughout Sonoma County. We’re also in the middle of major and much-needed repairs to our facilities!

As we grow, it feels like a natural time to ground ourselves via Calabash. This event reflects the essence of Sonoma County: nature, creativity, community, healing—and, of course, great food and wine. Guests get a chance to view and purchase truly unique art, hear exquisite music played on gourd instruments, and support a local, grassroots organization that helps feed their friends and neighbors.

Khysie Horn is a long-time volunteer for Food For Thought and was instrumental in developing Calabash.

Tickets for Calabash are now on sale: $50 in advance, $55 at the door. Purchase them at FFTfoodbank.org, (707) 887-1647, or at our office: 6550 Railroad Ave., Forestville.
