By Jeremy Goddard
Local underground Hip-Hop artist Kayer part of recent vinyl comeback arrives with a new release and re-presses of old singles. The Veteran MC’s latest LP “Rewind a Decade” on label Hit Status Recordings comes on a classic black press with cover art by Blaine Fontana. The album showcases archives (2003-2007) and was recorded in Oakland Ca. where Kayer lived many years before arriving to the North Bay.
Originally from the Portland Or. scene in the 1990’s Kayer came to the Golden State in 2002 is when he made one of his earliest vinyl records titled Put Me In This (7” single). In 2007 he pressed another titled Tryin Hard (12” single) featuring singer Luna Angel. The B-Side track Levantamos is a hard hitting Dance Hall beat produced by Stressnotic the son of Reggae legend Keith Hudson. Needless to say these limited run copies are very rare for the collectors.
As a solo artist Kayer has been credited for working with Bay Area artists such as Eddie K, Maleko, DJ Icewater & Vinroc (Triple Threat Dj’s). Multiple callaborations with Hip-Hop Legends Spoon (of Iodine) and P.E.A.C.E (Freestyle Fellowship/Project Blowed) have also brought alot of attention over the past decade.
