Sonoma County's newest art gallery opens its first exhibit -- Rites of Spring -- on Saturday May 2.  The show celebrates rebirth and new beginnings, with an eye to seasonal ceremonies, celebration and bright colors.   The paintings, etchings, collages and sculpture on display reflect artFlare's mission to ignite and illuminate the bond between art, nature and community.  ArtFlare is a Sonoma Country women's art group.  All pieces on display were created by its members and selected by its curator, Marge Mount, known throughout the region for her landscapes and portraits of birds.

"The Golden Thread" by Barbara GoodmanArtFlare members bring a variety of skills and talent to their art, including healing arts, radio production, drumming, writing, saxophone playing, poetry, teaching and the lost art of sheep herding.  Members to date include Monica Bryant, Batja Cates, Barbara Goodman, Marge Mount, Cynthia Poten, Mary Prisland and Nina Ayin Reimer, Sharona Cha Cha Tracy and the late Sharon Maser.
