Santa Rosa Snippets - December 2014

Santa Rosa Snippets - December 2014

by Jo Anne Cohn

Where did the year go? It’s hard to believe that 2014 is drawing to an end.  One of my resolutions for the year was to get out of my normal routine and enjoy some of the diverse events that Santa Rosa has to offer. It’s been a great year! I’ve climbed Taylor Mountain, volunteered at the Graton Day Labor Center, played in the Senior Games and much more. Along the way, I’ve made new friends, had new experiences and learned new things!  Though…the year is not over! I hope you join me this month in exploring Santa Rosa and finding out what our city has to offer!

Dine out.  Fight AIDS.

Dine out on at one of more than 80 participating Sonoma County restaurants on Thursday, December 4th and 25% or 50% of your bill will be donated to Food For Thought. With your help, $130,000 can be raised for Food For Thought, to provide life-sustaining meals for clients who depend on them!

Supporting Food for Thought is easy. Simply dine at a participating restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner, and 25% - 50% of your food bill goes directly to Food For Thought!  For more information and a list of participating restaurants, visit

Astronaut Lullabies

If you haven’t explored the SRJC Planetarium, now is the time!  Join the community on Saturday, December 6th at 7:30pm for Astronaut Lullabies, an immersive live concert planetarium experience!

Expect a mesmerizing multi-sensory journey – a poetry of heart, mind, sight & sound – as a live planetarium show is choreographed to original live music. From “Sugar in Space” to “Coming of Age in the Milky Way,” from reggae to ragas, you are invited to contemplate our place in space on our “pale blue dot” home world. For tickets and more information, visit

Safari West - Open House

Here’s your chance to be neighborly and get a close-up look at the strange and exotic family that lives at Safari West. Safari West is having an extended block party Sundays, December 7th and 14th. What a great opportunity to meet the cheetahs, giraffes, lemurs, a whole aviary full of strange birds, and much more - all of whom are our neighbors here in Santa Rosa. Call 707-566-3667 for reservations or email

And speaking of animals…Don’t forget to take your pets to Santa Paws at Western Farm Center on Saturday, December 6th and Sunday, December 7th and have their picture taken with Santa! Join in the fun and the FUNdraiser for Canine Companions for Independence!
