“The Titanic Story”
The 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic is April 15, 2012. In honor of this anniversary the Depot Park Museum is featuring “The Titanic Story” exhibit open March and April, and closing on April 29. The exhibit shows the beautiful liner as it left Southampton, England, and views of the lifeboats as they reached the rescue ship. Several stories about survivors are revealed, as well as the true story of J. Dawson, the name featured in James Cameron’s 1997 “Titanic” movie. The Depot Park Museum, 270 First Street West, Sonoma, is open Thursday through Sunday, from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. and admission is free. Call (707) 938-1762 for further details.
Beer-Vana: Nirvana for Beer Lovers!
Winners of the 2012 Amateur Beer Brewing competition will be announced at the Beer Plus Food Tasting party, held at Sonoma Community Center on Saturday, March 3. The event highlights the art of brewing beer and gives local brewers feedback from certified judges. Tickets are $30 (must be 21 to attend) and include samples of beer from dozens of breweries, food from local restaurants, a commemorative beer glass, and live music. Benefit performances of “Moll”
Three special presentations of the hilarious play “Moll” will benefit the Global Fund for Women, a group that fights for women’s rights worldwide. Come to Murphy’s Irish Pub and enjoy a special three-course menu followed by the live performance on Tuesday March 6, Thursday March 8, or Friday March 9. Tickets for dinner and the show are $40.
Then on Monday March 12th, “Moll” will be presented at the Sebastiani Theatre as a benefit for Kate Kennedy’s Avalon Players summer Shakespeare performances at Buena Vista Winery. Tickets are $20. Bi-Rite Market’s Eat Good Food
Reader’s Books hosts a book signing with Sam Mogannam’s and his book “Bi-Rite Market’s Eat Good Food: A Grocer’s Guide to Shopping, Cooking & Creating Community Through Food” on Saturday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. Growing up in San Francisco, Mogannam’s family owned Bi-Rite Market in the Mission, which he took over and completely overhauled in 1998. 9th Annual Quilt Show
Celebrate National Quilt Day on March 17 at the Vintage House Senior Center. The Quilt Show takes place March 17 and 18, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., 264 First Street East, Sonoma. The show features many local artists including Nancy Parmelee, former Mayor of Sonoma, who has won ribbons at the American Quilter’s Society Shows in Paducah, Kentucky. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Sonoma Library Reopens
The Sonoma Valley Regional Library will reopen in its refurbished quarters at 755 West Napa Street in Sonoma on Tuesday, March 20, at 10:00 a.m. The Temporary Library in Burlingame Hall at the First Congregational Church will close on Saturday, March 10, at 4:00 p.m.
