Restitution for Roseland?

Camping season has begun in Roseland again with the start of Spring. Now campers are returning to the banks of Roseland Creek and other spots where underbrush can hide a campsite or two. For the last 7 months 20 campers have proudly resided behind the Dollar Tree Store in the Roseland Village Shopping Center in a self-governed makeshift camp on county land.

No April Fools in Roseland

Arbor Day, Saturday March 12, 2016 was a wet rainy day with mud galore as over 40 people came out to plant trees on the edge of Roseland at Southwest Community Park on Hearn Ave. Close to 30 people from one local church came out to help the City of Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department honor Luther Burbank, a local horticulturalist from long ago.

SCAM  ALERT in Roseland the New Year.

A Roseland resident contacted Roseland Review to pass the word about this scam, “Men in orange reflective vests with ID badges hanging from around their necks and clipboards in their hands” came knocking on his door recently. He wrote to us to say, “Thinking they looked official and intent, I went out and one guy began talking about my PG&E gas bill. If I would get it he would show me how he could get me a discount.”  The message goes on to point out the folks were not from PG&E, and they were not offering a real discount.

Residents of the Roseland County Island may soon be doing their building permits and zoning change requests through the city of Santa Rosa. On Thursday Nov. 19th Tennis Wick, the director of the Sonoma County Permit and Resource Management Department, told the Roseland Annexation Sub-Committee his department would soon be switching these activities to the city to make for a smoother transition for the annexation. The joint city and county subcommittee has been meeting for two years on an intermittent basis to discuss how to accomplish annexation. What is interesting about this proposal on the part of Mr. Wick is the annexation may still be as much as two more years away from occurring. Yet Mr. Wick would like to see this function of county government be given over to the city right away.

Roseland Roller Coaster Removed

Roller Coasters are what many long time Roseland residents have called the extremely bumpy, up and down, pothole filled roads in Roseland, such as Corby Ave. and Sebastopol Rd. east of Dutton Ave. Now the Sebastopol Rd. Roller Coaster east of Dutton Ave. is being smoothed out. Santa Rosa public works projects have been repaving the north side, west bound lane of the road and soon the east bound lane will be done also. It is an amazing difference after close to 20 years of the Roller Coaster, especially at the railroad tracks crossing. The railroad crossing may also get smoothed out soon. With the new Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit trains to begin running on the old Northwestern Pacific tracks there is more activity than any time in the last 20 years.
