Veteran Greenwich Village folk/country/pop singer, Lucy Kaplansky, will hold a solo performance at the Occidental Center for the Arts on Feb. 18. Speaking from her home in the Village, she indicates she’ll accompany herself on guitar, with some piano and mandolin. Three-quarters of her songs will be originals.

The Sonoma County marching band, the Hubbub Club, which has been compared to a Fellini movie, will be part of a Jan. 16 Martin Luther King Day event, “A Day On, Not a Day Off,” at Santa Rosa’s Community Baptist Church. The event will include “traditional folk/spirituals and New Orleans-type songs,” says baritone horn player, Dan Bosch.

Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra Santa Rosa Symphony Realizes 13th Consecutive Record-Setting Year

Final audited figures confirm that the Santa Rosa Symphony (SRS), for the thirteenth consecutive fiscal year (ending June 30, 2016), finished in the black, realizing record-level ticket sales and donations, contributing to $4 million gross revenues. Estate donations from long-time symphony supporters helped raise the endowment to exceed $11 million for the first time and brought total assets to a record level of $17,110,628.

Robert Jones has been a favorite guitarist in the Northbay area for some time now. Robert was born in New York City. When he was 8, his family relocated to the Southern part of Spain. At the age of 13, he began playing the guitar. Robert's unique style of playing can be traced back to those years in Spain where he immersed himself in a variety of styles including rock, pop, jazz fusion, classical and flamenco. By the age of 16, Robert played with several bands in clubs and bars throughout Southern Spain, in the towns ofTorremolinos, Malaga, and Fuengirola.

There is truly nothing like going to a concert. I’m not talking so much about sitting and watching classical musicians perform works by famous composers but rather the experience where the music is blasting, the audience is dancing, and everyone is jamming out. It’s definitely a fun way to let loose. The thing, though, is that going to a high energy concert like the ones I just described aren’t very easy to come by in the area of Sonoma County. That’s something SOMO Concerts is trying to fix.

Bobby Rush, Emmet Ellis Jr. to his mother, is part of a lineup at the 40th Anniversary Russian River Blues Festival on Sept. 11 that promises to be the best in years. A member of theBlues Hall of Fame, Rush has over 60 years on the Chitlin’ Circuit, theaters and clubs featuring black entertainers. He claimed his first gold record in 1971, later adding three Grammy nominations and ten Blues Music Awards. Perhaps his most impressive accomplishment is being the first blues artist to play at the Great Wall of China.

After the success of last year’s “One-for-One” free child ticket program, the Santa Rosa Symphony is once again offering this special opportunity for the 2016-17 Classical Series concert season. Over 100 children were able to experience the beauty and wonder of classical music with this offer last year; this year, families can take advantage of this opportunity to introduce their children to the world of Beethoven, Schumann, Elgar and more. For each paid adult ticket to a Classical Series concert, patrons can receive ONE FREE ticket for a youth age 7-17.  Concerts begin October 8, 2016 and go through May 2017.

Strike up the bands. Let love and joy reign. There shall be dancing in the streets as the Peacetown Summer Concert Series opens up on Wednesday evenings from 5:00-8:00pm at Ives Park in Sebastopol. Now in its fifth year these concerts have grown from four in the first year, to six and eight the following years, and now ten shows will begin on June 29th and end August 31st .
