There's a tremendous array of classes and workshops available - these are for FREE or under $15.

A free College Academic Preparation Program for high school seniors is being offered by The Healthcare Workforce Development Program in conjunction with the Santa Rosa Junior College. They will meet once a month on Saturdays. They will cover college preparation, careers in healthcare, basic college skills, how to pay for college and financial aid info. Call 527-4809 if you are interested.

The Arthritis Foundation is now accepting applications for our 2013 Summer Science Internship Program. This program places 12 outstanding students in laboratories at the University of California, San Francisco and Stanford University. Interns receive hands on experience in the fields of rheumatology and immunology. Jun 1 ~ Vamos a Nadar (Let's Go Swimming) ~ The free bilingual program includes swim classes in the pool for children, water safety lectures for parents, and demonstration of lifesaving techniques. Upon completion of the class, children will receive coupons for a two-week course of swim lessons. Jun 5 ~ Workshop on Stream Protection Policies ~ The public is invited to attend an informational workshop to be held by Permit and Resource Management Department staff to learn about the implementation of the County’s General Plan and Area Plan stream protection policies (PRMD File No. ORD13-0002). Stream setback distances were decided during the development of Area Plans, Specific Plan and the General Plan update. Jun 10 ~ “Bite of Reality” ~ Redwood Credit Union and Chop’s Teen Club announced that they would be partnering to present a free “Bite of Reality” financial workshop for local teens on Monday, June 10 from 3 pm to 6 pm at Chop’s Teen Club, 509 Adams Street in Santa Rosa. The event, which teaches basic money management skills in a fun, interactive setting, is a hands-on simulation designed to provide teens with a taste of real-world financial realities, such as paying off student loans, obtaining medical insurance, and paying for basic necessities like groceries and utilities. Jun 11-14 ~ Academy for Banking and Finance ~ Any high school Sophomore, Junior or Senior is invited to attend this FREE 16 hour course to become acquainted with many of the financial realities they will face when they make their way into the "real world." Jun 15 ~ Sudden Oak Death Blitz ~ First, attend one of these meetings to learn to identity symptoms on California bay laurel and tanoak leaves. Sonoma, 10-11am at the Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa St. Sebastopol, 10-11am at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 282 High St. Santa Rosa, 10-11am at the Environmental Discovery Center, Spring Lake Regional Park, 393 Violetti Rd. Second, make leaf collections on your own Saturday and/or Sunday. Third, return leaves to meeting site. The leaves will be taken to a UC Berkeley lab to test for the pathogen that causes sudden oak death.  The results will be mapped in Google Earth. go to http://ucanr.edu//sonomasod/ for more info. 

June 24 - CPR / First Aid / AED Training Seminar. The session will provide training to respond to accidents and sudden illnesses in emergency medical situations. Upon completion of the class, two-year certifications will be given for CPR and First Aid. The class will be held June 24th from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., presented in Spanish and located at Farm Bureau: 970 Piner Road in Santa Rosa. Advanced registration is required.
